I know it's way to early to tell, but what do you guys think, could the 2008 - 2009 rookie class potentially be as good or better than the class of 03.

2008:

Greg Oden
Michael Beasley
Derrick Rose
Kevin Love
Marc Gasol
Mayo
Gordon
Galinari
Westbrook
The Lopez's

2003

James
Anthony
Bosh
Wade
Hinrich
Diaw
Barbosa
Ford
Kaman
West
Josh Howard

Oden and Beasley are beasts, and hopefully Rose is going to dominate pretty soon.

Oden and Beasley have POTENTIAL to be while Wade, LBJ, Melo, Bosh, Howard, Kaman, David West, and Barbosa.

While LeBron and Wade will be better than anyone from 08-09 (Maybe not Rose), I feel like the 2008-2009 class will be deeper, with more good players and borderline stars.

the 03 class would destroy this class

You could also add Bayless to the 08 list. On potential, Randolph and Jordan could be just as good as anyone on the list. I think the 08 class is one of the deepest classes ever, but the 03 class is obviously better ... right now. Only time will tell what we actually have with this years rookie class. We will soon find out who the Wades of the class are and who's going to be the next Darko.

well ODen shouldn't be on there because this wasn't his draft class

it's tough. Remember we are looking on potential only. If we look at only potential then clearly this years class since oden si suspposed to be the next russell, mayo is supposed to be a arenas/rayallen with D(depending on which position he plays), jordan is suppossed to be the next dwight, gallinari next dirk, beasley next amare/jamison (combo of both), etc. point is potentially I would say this class had more coming in because 2003 only had one clear cut #1 pick in lebron while this years had 3 (rose and beasley(they were neck in neck) and oden form last year). If I looked at potential of both I'd say this years, but to expect most of them to reach their potential is crazy.

Its not Rookie class, Its Draft class. Meaning Marc Gasol and Greg oden would not be included. Plus you did not include all the players. Josh Howard was a late draft pick, so one might pop out of the blut like that again.

wouldn't a rookie class involve players that are in their first season PLAYING in the nba. AKA Oden. The reason i made this was because a pretty good draft class + the best from last year makes it pretty impressive.

thats what i'm saying Kozel, there is a lot of potential but look at all of the "next Michael Jordan's" that have come into the league, you can't always trust potential. So do you think these players in 5 years or so will be as good as the 03 class or do you think they are overrated. I have a feeling Oden is going to be a huge disappointment. Not saying he'll be awful but people have very big expectations and i think he's too slow.

Not saying I have a crystal ball or anything, but Oden was draft as a number 1 pick because he has surprizing quickness for his size. While he may not develop the touch and the skill to be a dominate big man, I don't think he'll be a "slow" player. He has lots of explosiveness and speed that will make him very dangerous. Think Amare with a taller, lengthier frame.

the poll is suprisingly even.

Your absolutely right, I don't know why I thought when i last watched him he was pretty slow. I was just looking up clips of him in college and he does look pretty quick. Do you think his injury will affect that quickness? What was he out for? Was it a knee injury? Because that could destroy a big man.

I kind of hope so cause some of the crazy portland love is making me sick. I think he wont be great but he will be good like mutombo. I think he can be allstar for a few years but wont be like superstar. Either way, as I see it there is definitly alot of potential in this draft. It's definitly deeper without a doubt in my mind, but I think in terms of best players 03 wins, because unless oden becomes russell/robinson, I cant see rose or beasley ever become as good as lebron. However I can see rose surpassing wade who imo will break down soon and beasley imo has more talent than melo which leaves oden vs bosh more than likely. 03 definitly wins in terms of best player, but depth wise I think 08 destroys in because after those 4 for 03 they dont ahve anyone great, just a few diamonds in the rust, while 08 will probably have ALOT of diamond in the rusts and potential players like jordan, speights can very well become pretty damn good.
The comparisons of these 2 imo will be like 84 vs 96, 84 had 4 HOFs, while 96 had way more depth, but because most look at only the top players of the 84 draft they say 84 is better. of course it depends what spot you are drafting in. Of course I'd take number 1 pick in 03 over 08 ANYDAY but if I had to choose in the later rounds I'd probably go with this draft.

03 class. We have not seen even a minute from any of the 08 class yet. Its a bit early to compare them though I think the 03 class is one of the best ever. Unlike the 03 draft. I felt as if there was a significant dropoff after the top 3 picks this past year.

03 is probably one of the deepest draft classes ever, I don't think 08 will be as good.

09 draft class, hasn't even played a real game yet....

You can't even compare the two until a full season.

I didn't think this was serious '03 would dominate LeBron, Melo, Bosh, Wade, J. Howard, Outlaw, Hinrich, Kaman, Ford, Perkins

But you can compare their college/highschool status.

03 had a better pre-NBA talent than the 09 draft class.
