Game 1

Monday, July 25 - 7:05 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_493137.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_450308.jpg

BOS: RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (11-1, 2.64) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/matsuda01.shtml) vs LAA: RHP Jered Weaver (8-8, 4.08) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/weaveje02.shtml)

Red Sox: Matsuzaka turned in one of his best performances of the season in his last start, allowing five hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings in a 4-2 win over the Mariners. After struggling in his first start back from the disabled list, Matsuzaka has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his past five starts. The righty is 6-1 with a 3.02 ERA in nine starts at Fenway Park this season. Matsuzaka is holding opponents to a .202 average. This is his first start of the season against the Angels.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_493137.jpg

Angels: Weaver had his shortest start of the season when he pitched just three innings against the Indians on Tuesday, exiting with back stiffness. He allowed two runs on three hits, walking two and hitting another. The only positive from his start was that he struck out four of the 15 batters he faced. His outing broke a streak of four straight starts in which pitched at least five innings and allowed two earned runs or fewer. Weaver is 0-2 with a 5.46 ERA in five career starts against the Red Sox.

Game 2

Tuesday, July 26 - 7:05 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_453329.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_407793.jpg

BOS: RHP Clay Buchholz (2-5, 5.81) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/buchhcl01.shtml) vs LAA: RHP John Lackey (8-2, 3.02) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/l/lackejo01.shtml)

Red Sox: Buchholz showed some improvement in his last start, giving up seven hits and three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners. Since coming back from the Minor Leagues, Buchholz is 0-2 with a 6.60 ERA in three starts. This will be Buchholz's third career appearance against the Angels, and second this season. On July 18, the Angels touched the right-hander up for eight hits and eight runs -- four earned -- over 4 2/3 innings. Buchholz has been unable to pitch at least six innings in nine of his 11 starts.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_453329.jpg

Angels: Lackey struggled against the Indians on Wednesday, giving up six runs on eight hits in five innings but still earned the win as the Angels scored 14 runs. After starting the season on fire by carrying a 1.44 ERA through nine starts, Lackey has cooled down in his last four starts, posting a 7.30 ERA in those outings. But he did beat the Red Sox two starts ago, when he allowed three earned runs in seven innings on July 19. He's 2-6 with 6.01 ERA against Boston in his career.

Game 3

Wednesday, July 27 - 7:05 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_277417.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_434578.jpg

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (9-7, 3.83) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/beckejo02.shtml) vs LHP Joe Saunders (13-5, 3.10) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/saundjo01.shtml)

Red Sox:Beckett was strong in his last start against the Yankees. Although he allowed nine hits in the game, he found ways to avoid runners crossing the plate while striking out six. The lone run that crossed the plate in Boston's 1-0 loss to New York was a shift-induced, infield RBI single off Jason Giambi's bat. In his last outing against the Angels on July 19, Beckett went eight innings and allowed four earned while taking the loss.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_277417.jpg

Angels: Saunders pitched well enough to earn his 13th win of the season on Friday night against Baltimore. The left-hander pitched six strong innings of one-run baseball -- the lone run coming on a solo homer by Kevin Millar in the third inning -- before running into some trouble in the seventh. Saunders left the game having given up three two-out runs in the inning but escaped with the win. Saunders, who has a solid 3.10 ERA overall, pitches markedly better on the road. Saunders got a no-decision the last time he faced Boston, throwing 6 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on six hits with three walks.

What does "usually" mean? We've owned them all the time up until this year. That's not really them owning us much.

This is optimistic thinking on my part: I think we'll sweep the Angels. We let two games get away from us in Anaheim, and we play better at home. I expect us to hit Weaver tonight, to hit Lackey like we usually do, besides the last time we faced him, tomorrow, and then to win a pitchers' duel against Saunders on Wednesday. Call it unreasonable, but I think we can and we will sweep, based on the undeniable fact that we hit, pitch, and play better defense at home.

It's too bad the whole "Manny being Manny" thing got so much hype. Before it was mentioned as widely as it is now, everything seemed to be relatively fine. The slogan caught on, fans started following him and reacting to his antics more, the media got involved even more and things got hectic.

Too bad some fans give other fans a bad name. For anyone who doesn't know I am a Yankees fan and I enjoy the game and talking to level headed fans all the time, despite the team.

Too bad that the fans ruin the fun of the game at times. It's a pity.

So much for winning this game .Our stupid manager leaves a starter in to long. Why am I not surpraise. Most managers after 4 hit in a row without a out can see the starter has nothing left and the Kotchman homer was one thing but after next 2 guys after that got hits you can tell the pitcher is done. Its the 6th inning so it ok not as long as you like but 7 is average so its acceptable leaving down 3 to 2. the 4th run might have scored but the reliever would get out of inning lot less damage instead you leave him in there to face Torri Hunter and he homers off him. Then you bring Masterson in when its to late and we can assume we are going to lose this.

Can't disagree with that, however Daisuke has been much better this year about getting himself out of jams.. in 2008 he's given little reason not to leave him in.

it's all sideline coaching anyway. If he took him out and put Masterson in and Masterson did a great job, Tito would have been a genius. If he put Masterson in and he let up 4 runs, he'd be a moron for pulling Daisuke when he did.

i hope this opens some peoples eyes about how bad our offense is, sure number 1-5 in our batting order is pretty reliable but the rest are flat out unreliable that includes varitek, lugo/lowrie, ellsbury, drew (at times). we need at least two of those to start hitting, i mean how long has varitek's slump lasted? pretty much all year, hope he doesn't resign for next year, not worth the offensive hole he leaves no matter how good he is at leading the pitching staff. Also, Buchholz needs to go back to the minors for a while, hes proven he cant handle the MLB just yet and put masterson back in the starting rotation. Maybe switch them, buchholz in the bullpen and masterson as a starter

John Lackey is a pretty good pitcher but, for him to almost throw a no hitter against a team like the Red Sox who score a ton of runvs is embarrassing. I hope this game throws some red flags up to management that we need offensive and bullpen help really bad. If we don't get some major help we won't make the playoffs because the Rays and Yankees aren't going anywhere and, we're in the worst offensive slump of the season at the worst possible time. Bring in Tejada and some bullpen help. We got a ton of prospects.

this is so annoying to watch, we've lost almost every game to good teams, which shouldn't be happening seeing that we are just as good as the Yanks and Angels. tejada has more power, hence more HRs and Im willing to bet Tejada comes through when we need at least a sac fly. How many times this season has the red sox have men on at least 3rd with less than 2 outs only to see crisp, varitek, and/or lugo come up and either strike out or pop out.

What's your point? Tejada still sucks. -100 OPS+ tells you that he's simply not good. When I first heard of the trade rumors, I was interested. Then I looked at his numbers, and I realized that I haven't caught up with baseball as much recently as before.

He's a loser. He's not much (If it all) of an upgrade over Lugo.

he may suck but so does Lugo, tejada brings about the same game as lugo but has more power which we can use right now, Lugo has proven he cant get the job done when it counts, especially in the late innings with runners in scoring position. yup this team sucks right now, imo i dont think we make the playoffs even though we lead in the wild card, we re about to get swept twice by the angels and almost got swept by the yankees. Our offense is pitiful now, yes we have over 530 runs but a lot of those runs were scored in bunches not spread out consistently over a number of games. Well if we re playing like this with Manny, I say get rid of his *** and bring in some young guys from the Marlins and give Lars anderson or someone a chance in the majors

Man, so depressing.

Any time I think of Crisp, I think about what he did with the Indians back in 2005. Imagine if he put numbers like that up with us? We could have gotten such a good return on him once we decided to trade him last winter.

Wow Crisp with the 2 run home run. Just turned it on, saw the 3-0 score and almost turned it off. Getting sick of this. Atleast now theres hope

While I was on my way home, the other guy in the radio booth (not Castiglione) said it best that once Ortiz returned, the entire team relaxed and let their guard down...Hopefully a Manny trade can shake some life into them.

Why isn't Josh being a Cy Young type pitcher this year? He has seemed mediocre all season so far.

josh is like our number 4 pitcher right now the way hes pitching, its like hes going back to his first season with the sox, only throws fast balls and is not mixing his pitches like last season

I'm just about ready to put this season to bed. If we can't wake up soon it's over. When Youk makes an error, you know somethings wrong. It's just disgusting the way that these guys are playing.

As great a hitter Manny is, he is really killing your team right now and I fell sorry for your guys on the field having to deal with his crap all the time! Especially when he says that the Red Sox don't deserve him. Thats pure BS.

I think we need to get rid of Manny tonight. I don't care if we only get a used ball bag for him but he needs to go now.

This is about as bad as I've seen this team look since the end of 2006. They look absolutely, 110%, completely lifeless.

I'm hoping that once the Ramirez saga is over and done with (With the ending being Ramirez leaving the team), the team will relax and go back to playing good ball.
