I was following the baseball games on the computer today, and I noticed that Jason Bay was replaced in the 5th inning. This led me to believe that there may be a trade taking place for him. Does anyone know why he was taken out? (or if there's a trade in the works?)

Peter Gammons is sharp. If that's what he says, he has not been traded. Perhaps injured. And if that's the case, that eliminates any chance of a trade.

No, a lot of the Pirates' regulars were taken out during that game because we were getting blown out (and we're facing Jake Peavy today, so we want to have our starters rested). Nate McLouth and Freddy Sanchez were taken out as well.

So no. There is no trade in the works.

I would be very suprised to see the Pirates trade Bay after already trading Nady.

I dont think Bay is going anywhere. He has hinted that he'd like to stay in Pittsburgh. Also an OF of Bay-McLouth-McCutchen would be beast.

I don't think he'll be traded by the deadline either. But I imagine he'll be shopped again this offseason when the Pirates organization has more time to deliberate and choose the best offer. The Pirates are still a lot of holes away from competing, and Bay will demand a large contract in '10 when he is a FA. I think he's gone by opening day.

This deal was proposed last night!

A proposed deal, which would have brought Jason Bay to Atlanta in exchange for four Minor Leaguers, was killed when presented to the Pirates owners for approval.

Bowman believes Pirates targets might include Brent Lillibridge, Brandon Jones, a talented A ball pitcher, and a marginal position player prospect. He says the Braves will continue to pursue Bay.

Bring him to Toronto. That's where he wants to be anyway...
