View Full Version : Atlanta Considering Two Sign and Trades for Smith

Per Rotoworld....

Josh Smith-F-Hawks Jul. 26 - 10:43 am et

The Hawks are weighing two sign-and-trade offers for restricted free agent Josh Smith, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Sekou Smith writes that the two offers come from "a Western Conference power and...an Eastern Conference big dog." Atlanta might not be willing to pay Smith what he feels he deserves, leaving either a sign-and-trade or the possibility that he will accept a qualifying offer and leave for nothing as an unrestricted free agent next summer. The last time Sekou hinted at a blockbuster trade Mike Bibby wound up in a Hawks uniform, so we're all ears.

I think its either Lakers, Suns or Mavs out west. All have shown interest in Artest and all would like to upgrade as SF. I'm guessing its the Pistons, Cavs or Miami in the East. Wow...I named 6 teams. Why don't I just name all of them. I guess I'm saying that I have no clue.

The Mavs finished 6 games out of the top seed in the West after making a major trade and changing the entire philosophy of the team mid season. They were a game back of the top seed when they made the Kidd trade, and expect to be back there with a full season with Kidd, which includes a training camp.

So yes, they are still considered a power.

There have been lots of rumors of a Josh Howard for Josh Smith deal, I could see that going down.

07-26-2008, 02:43 PM
If it's a top dog in the east they better rape them in that deal because they would be making that team that much better than they were before and Atlanta doesn't need that seeing how they struggle to even make the 8th seed...With that being said I think he goes west, to either the Dallas Mavericks or L.A. Lakers...I still think Miami is a potential destination seeing how Marion has a huge expiring contract which would make them major players in free agency next year if they don't resign him...

I really have a feeling that is going to be the Suns, it just seems like a trade Diaw, Bell and future picks, would be in the Hawks best interest because I don't see other western conference favorite really putting up a stud to trade for Josh Smith.

If you look at some of the top teams in the West:

1. Lakers - don't need Smith and probably wouldn't mesh well with Kobe and Gasol (the Lakers would have to part with Bynum in this deal and I don't see that happening)

2. Spurs - Not enough pieces and doesn't fit that system

3. Suns - Fits nicely and some nice mid level pieces to get a deal done (Diaw, Barbosa, Bell, Tucker and picks could all make a nice package)

4. Mavs - Outside of Josh Howard, nothing else to really offer up and the Hawks would be taking a major downgrade

5. Rockets - not enough pieces to make an attractive offer, Yao and T-Mac already eat up too much of their cap

6. Nuggets - AI, Melo and Josh Smith would be amazing, but outside of JR Smith, there is nothing to offer up since they gave up Camby for free

7. Jazz - No pieces what so ever outside of Deron and Boozer

8. Hornets - Could be a sleeper, they could package Chandler and some picks to get a deal done, but centers are tough to come by and I doubt they add in a guy like Josh Smith

I think Atlanta gets the better end of that deal because Tayshaun is no slouch...He's a winner...He may not be as athletic as Josh Smith but he plays D just as well and he darn sure shoots better than Smith...I think the Pistons would be dumb to trade Tayshaun because in my opinion he's the best all around player on their team...Atlanta gets the best of this trade...

the article said that they were considering these sign and trades and that the hawks management MIGHT not give smith what he wants. remember that childress left so we have an extra 4 mill to give him. the team in the east they were talking about would have to be the pistons since dumars wanted to make some kind of a move while in the west it could be the lakers since the lakers were considering trading odum for artest. its hard to tell with our management.i have a headache everytime something pops up about the hawks.

it's probably the lakers or hornets from the west and boston or detroit from the east.

definitly not boston or lakers or hornets. none of those make ANY sense. Lakers have Gasol. celtics have KG. Hornets have West.

East: Pistons, possibly CHI..maybe CLE?

West: MAVS/clips/DEN?

i know the west team is dallas. I agree that it is the Pistons in the east.
Terry and Stack for Smith

Hamilton, Samb and Prince for Smith and Marvin Williams

omg that is a terrbile deal ...

i can't believe they wouldn't want picks... and that would preclude Lakers and Mavs

Vinylman

doesn't it have to be a player whose making about the same amount of money smith wants to sign for. so i guess it is lakers for odom. watch it be for some scrub like the pau gasol trade.

No... only about half of his new contract would count

ya we have gasol, but we need a solid defender at SF, which is what smith plays. he can play both foward spots, but he would play SF if dealt to the lakers. and that makes sense considering odom is a 4 trying to play the 3. we trade odom for smith, there would be other parts but that would be the main part of the deal. i wouldnt call the clippers or the nuggets, or the mavs really, a western power. remember, it said east top dog and a west power.

well you know the hawks are gonna trade smith for another foward because those are the only players the hawks get.

NO way they'd trade smith for sheed. They's want back some young talent...not an old bum with an attitude. Maybe prince + 2 1st's for smith.

Are you crazy he not worth two 1s!!! He may not be worth one Prince

Do you really think the Hawks want "no jump shot" Lamar Odom? The only good thing he does is rebound and attack the basket, Odom most of the time plays PF and the Hawks already have Al Horford who plays already plays that of the time, so Odom really wouldn't have a role on the Hawks.

odom is one of the more versatile players in the league. and al horford can play center, so they'd put him there and odom at the 4. he is a good team player and he has a big expiring contract. remember, i said there would be more to the deal, but he would just be the focal point. if we threw in a guy like farmar, thats a done deal. im just trying to think of a deal the lakers could make, but someone suggested terry and stackhouse, and that doesnt sound too realistic. odom would have to be in it from the lakers for salary purposes as well.

I never suggested terry and stackhouse that's was some other person, I said Josh Howard+Bass+Stackhouse might get it done.

ya i know u didnt say it, im just saying someone did. ur trade idea ia quite a bit better. idk the mavs situation contract-wise, but if the main part is josh howard and then maybe throw in some young talent or expirings, then i could see it working. i like ur trade, i'd rather see him as a laker though.

Hawks don't need a SF...Williams is their SF. They need a PF. Howard doesn't fit the description and Bass is nothing more than a bench player. Prince doesn't fit the description either.
Boozer and Odom both fit...I don't think UT would part with Boozer though. Both of those players are also expirings and since Smith would be a BYC player with any S&T, Claxton and his 2yr/$11M could be included which would put ATL in a great position next offseason to go after just about anybody they want.

i would cream if it were with chicago. ive been wanting jsmoove in chi town for the past 2 years almost.

deng for smith s&t smith would play sf

or s&t smith for gordon, tt. smith would play pf backed up by gooden.

but they did say big dog. bulls havnt been considered that since the 90s i dont think. could be some crazy deal with the cavs, or perhaps pistons, but everyone is old there.

grrr i want jsmoove :(
