How much do they help the Yankees?

I was totally shocked by this. Just never saw it coming. Sucks too.......

This kinda reminds me of the Abreu Acquisition a few years ago.
Lets hope the Same results don't follow. That was an ugly ending to a pretty good season that year for the Sox. Felt like spring training tryouts in september.

I can't be too suprised by this pickup for the yanks Just suprised what they gave up. I am REALLY suprised it didn't take a package centered around Kennedy.

Well I Guess Fuentes asking price just skyrocketed.:speechless:

Hell yea it helps the yanks thats why it sucks so badly. I mean we just lost a pretty good pitches duel yesterday to the yanks and now they make a trade to get even better dam!!!!! I hope the red soxs do something soon cause this manny **** is not helping us at all.

The best we can hope for is that the change of environment slows down Nady's production..

Would have been nice to get Marte tho.

this is what i hate the yanks have so many less prosopects yet they will trade some to get better

for us the only untouchable prospects should be lars Anderson, Justin Masterson

bowden is great trade bait for 2 reasons. he has too many people in front of him, and as many better options behind him, and his value is the highest it can be right now

and right now at best is a 3 starter, because i actually did see him and he tops out at like 91 during games

im just saying we need to do something, i still remember in 06 we just sat there and did nothing i dont want that happening again

Manny? he could be on the way out he has been huge distraction lately

I think it helps the Yankees out a good amount right now.

As for the future, they lost a bit too much for my liking.

We'll see what kind of effect this move has on the Yankees for both now and in the future.

see but thats the thing they lost one future player who is ways away. they could draft a college player almost as good as tabata within the next few years that could be mlb ready by the time tabata will be

The redsox have a lot of depth, if they were all to pan out there would be no where to put them

And we arent playing next season or the one after that they are playing this season, and are not a rebuilding team

Personally Nady is having a good year, but he's more of a platoon guy since Matsui is gone for the year. Marte has a 1.36 ERA at home but a 6.20ERA on the road. I think they overpayed a little, but it makes some sense. Tabata is their third highest rated spec and honestly how long can they have faith in Damon, Matsui and Abreu. So good they got rid of someone who was rated as high as an A-. We do need a LHP more reliable than Javier Lopez, but we're doing fine. There may be a chance to snag Fuentes, if the asking price drops before the July 31st tag. Who knows? They may go another route.

The yanks are like 2-3 games back & the rays are in first place. We just got to make a move.

I wouldn't be worried about Marte. He is great when he doesn't come in when the game is on the line but is just horrible in tight situations. Do you guys remember the ALCS series in 2005? When he came in and walked the bases loaded with no outs?

If MANNY doesn't play today or the rest of the series then I think they might actually think about trading him. I don't think it'll happen, but if he doesn't smarten up soon then he won't be back here in Boston.

I really think the Sox should trade prospects for Holliday.

Bowden, Hansen, Moss & another spec

The thing about this move is that it is good for the future as well. The only worthwhile prospect we gave was Tabata. Marte is a FA after this year with an option and he will most likely be a type A free agent. If the Yanks decide that they rather go young, they can justnot pick up his option, offer him arbitration (which he will likely decline) and then sign with another team allowing the Yanks to get 2 draft picks in the draft. Then the Yanks can do what they do like other big-market teams and get the best available player that falls due to signability or whatever and make up for the loss of Tabata.

Doubt it. What move could the Red Sox do that is "big" that helps the ballclub? As we know, Theo is not going to sell the farm in order to do a "win now", so, I can't really see anything big happening.

No time to panic we are hitting .229 since the break we got Ortiz, but fella's he was free.

We don't need a knee jerk reaction either imo.

I seriously believe this trade makes them much better. They filled two needs it also was a steal of a deal. If we gave up our third rated prospect and some after thoughts for those two , people would be ecstatic.

We need to get everyone, for once this year , on the same darn page, it's starting to haunt me. We go much longer and it's kaboom we are in trouble.

Trades aside.

We are playing the worst BB of the season and we should be rolling. Lets hope Lester can bail us out AGAIN.

I believe they do make a deal now. Not sure how much impact it will have but a deal just to let the players know the FO is trying.

I think a big deal is coming and i believe it will involve manny. his time has come. don't be surprised to see a three team trade with manny, rockies, and phillies. i think if times get desperate i think they will move for Tex but the sox seem very hestitate to move youk. tex is a great player but can anyone really replace youk's intensity?

They CAN'T just move Manny he is a 10/5 guy. I highly doubt he gets moved till November. IF they offered him a new deal now and he gives them permission to shop him, then maybe. But that's a lot to ask in a weeks time. Nevermind having borass as his agent. Things don't add up......

I'm not worried about Youk intensity it actually pissed off some teammates this year. His production is the worry and the cost.

Why move him he plays mulitple positions is flexible about where he hits too. We have him under control.....we need to look elsewhere. (IMO)

If they move Manny, they better receive a bat like Hollidays to protect Papi in that line-up. I don't believe they will deal Manny if they can't get a powerful bat in return. As for getting Texeira, why would they give up Youk when he just the same with-out the HR's and much, much, much cheaper!

No, not at all. He was horrible that year. 33 BB and 45 hits in 45 innings pitched. 1.72 Whip. Sure his ERA was 3.77, but that doesn't count all the runs others were charged to because he sucked.

You must be confusing him with Neal Cotts, Cliff Pollitte, Dustin Hermansen, and Bobby Jenks. They White Sox road those players to a World Series that year. Cotts was the lefty specialist too.

In the second half of the season Marte just pitched in cleanup duty. We were all hoping they'd trade him or at least not put him on the playoff roster.
