View Full Version : 2003 Draft-David West, huge steal?

I think we all know how awesome the 2003 draft turned out to be, possibly the best ever. My question is, was David West the steal of it?

We know the first few picks well, Lebron, Wade, Melo, Bosh, Hinrich, Ford, Kaman. And we know the busts, Sweetney, Hayes, Milicic.

But those guys were all top 10. All star caliber David West wasn't taken until pick 18. Was this a monumental steal or just a good pick?

it wasnt really a steel because he wasnt expected to go any higher
solid pick to get an all star at 18....best draft ever?

He wasn't expected to go higher then, but knowing how good he turned out to be I think its a steal. If teams knew he'd be this good he'd be top 12

So which was a bigger steal, him or Martin at 27 or 28?

David West was a good steal for sure. I don't think many people expected he'd become what he is today.

kind of

in a normal draft it would be a huge steal but not in 2003

i still think it was a very good pick at 18

Good point.

I think that question could be better answered once both Martin and West both enter their prime, or we'll at least be able to answer that question better once the 2008-2009 season ends.

For now the answer is David West because he made the All-Star team, he's one of the few big guys in the NBA who are at the All-Star level and we can even argue that he has contributed more to his team than what Martin has done last season.

He needs to stop crying all the time to the officials and maybe others will start considering him an elite player. Complains way too much.

Product of CP3. Not so much of a steal but you found a guy and he turned out good. Kinda like Speights this year. He is not expected to improve but if he does keep improving he could be a very good player.

david west is a great player. but we'll see if he's ever a allstar again. not sure he'd have been selected if it wasn't in NO last year.

Wow I ant kno he was drafted in 03, he's still young.. David West is a very under-rated player, Vary! He should of been top 10 in that draft, and he still has time to develope, and gonna give many good years 2 the hornet's or ne other franchise, so 2 get picked @ 18.... Yea's that's a steal
