Don't know if this is the right place to put it, but here it is anyways.

Does anyone think that within 10 years basketball leagues from around the world will adopt an international playoff system like Soccer's champion's league. I dont think it could be as big (in # of teams too). But it would be cool to watch, Real Madrid vs Knicks, Celtics, etc.

Anyone else rooting for this?

I could see an International League happening, but the NBA probably would not be interested...who knows?

I could see the NBA muscling in on International markets.

I could imagine a European division of the NBA with a playoff system and everything. Full fledged NBA franchises. something like....

London
Madrid
Paris
Rome
Berlin
Moscow

NBA expansion into Europe with European Business partnerships.

I think Athens would make more sense than London

but its a good idea nonetheless

they are actually going to have some type of World Cup tournament for basketball clubs next summer

I posted a thread about it a couple of months ago in the FIBA forum

Barcelona should be a Lock.

If you give a Franchise to madrid and not to barcelona, or to bareclona and not madrid there would be a RIOT in Spain.

Well at least if you only pt one in madrid, make sure it has NOTHING to do with REal Madrid the bastards.

Wow! I guess it could happen. Will the to "clubs" that represent USA be from the NBA? If they are, it should be the Celtics and 2008-2009 champion.

If anyone sees anything more post it, I'll try to find info.

The club championship is listed in the NBA site- http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php/FIBA

Stern wont risk the Nba champion.

He has already removed nba teams to face european teams in europe this year after the utter failure of the Grizzlies, Raptors, 76ers or Clippers in the past years when they faced Real Madrid, Barcelona, Cska etc.

So he will not risk by any means the leagues name in such a competition.

I barely follow basketball in Israel.... I try to follow the Euroleague though

btw, on the NBA hoopedia link I couldnt find anything about the club championship other than it being listed as an existing event
