Thunder. I like it. I liked it enough to name my Re-Draft team that. Colors are more than likely gonna be gold and black as well.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The registrar for all of the NBA's Internet domain names reserved okcthunderbasketball.com on July 10, according to information gleaned from whois.net.

CSC Corporate Domains describes itself as a domain name management company for corporations, law firms and intellectual property professionals. It is the registrar of record for nba.com and all other domains managed by NBA Media Ventures, LLC.

Over the course of the past two weeks, KOCO.com and SportsXtra have worked together to research what's called whois information on more than 200 domain names, with the focus primarily on possible nicknames such as Barons, Outlaws and Thunder. Most domain names and variations of them had been registered well before the settlement between the city of Seattle and the former Seattle Supersonics of the NBA.

Most of these domain names had been registered by individuals, many of whom work as domain-name squatters, people who register domain names in quantity for the purpose of selling them.

Thunder is fine, i liked the OKC Barons better or the Bombers

As previously stated, Bombers wouldn't have been appropriate as OKC was the target of the second largest terrorist attack on American soil. Cool name, but it just wouldn't ever fly with the people supporting the team.

Thunderstruck by AC/DC as their official intro song?

Yes. Thunderstruck will get a lot of play in that arena.

They can call this team the "Thunder" if they want. But I'm gonna keep calling them "The Thundercats"

...Thundercats. :D

Kinda lame, I immediately associate that with the cartoon. I used to wake up to the cartoon back around 2nd grade and the theme song is ingrained in my brain.

07-19-2008, 09:58 AM
I think the name will be a good one, particularly if they make a sick symbol. Something really cool like this http://www.sportslogos.net/images/logos/19/1228/full/5576.gif

I don't think I could come up with a worse name if I tried. Thunder is AWFUL. Singular team names = LAME. And the NBA already has enough of them with the Heat, Magic, and Jazz.

i'm a raptors fan. i love the raptors. any name is better than the raptors. they named them the raptors when jurassic park was big in the theatres, and barney was a popular kids show.. like the (anaheim) mighty ducks (disney movie).
typical corporate ploy. kinda lame though. wish i could wear a raptors jersey, just can't bring myself to it. thats just me though, still a big fan.
time to burry the hatchet and move on.
thunder's cool.

From NewsOK.com (http://newsok.com/oklahoma-city-thunder-clues-hidden-in-nba-schedule/article/3279771)

The NBA’s Web site all but confirmed Thunder would be the nickname of Oklahoma City’s NBA team on Wednesday morning — by Wednesday afternoon, the evidence was gone.

When the league released its schedule on Wednesday, the NBA web site linked to a page that listed the “Oklahoma City Thunder schedule” and clicking on any of the Oklahoma City’s 82 games took you to the url — www.nba.com/thunder

By Wednesday afternoon, the word Thunder was nowhere to be found on the Oklahoma City schedule page and all of the links pointed to www.nba.com/oklahomacity

Oklahoma City NBA team spokesman Dan Mahoney’s comment Wednesday was similar to previous weeks. “We’re not going to comment on the name until we’re ready to announce something,” Mahoney said.

The Thunder url sends users to an inactive page, which says, “We apologize for the inconvenience, but the page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed or is temporarily unavailable.”

The web pages for all of the NBA teams are set up — www.nba.com/teamname

So on the schedule on the site, if you click on Chicago, it sends you to the Bulls website. If you click on Boston it sends you to the Celtics website. If you clicked on Oklahoma City, there was an address for nba.com/thunder.

Team chairman Clay Bennett last week told The Oklahoman that speculation on the nickname was part of the fun. “There’s lots of considerations from legal and licensing down to strategic marketing,” Bennett said. “But we’ll announce the name soon.”

There were some inconsistencies on the NBA’s Web site. On another schedule page, users who clicked on a Seattle link were directed to a page headlined “2007-08 Oklahoma City Thunder schedule.” The address for that was http://www.nba.com/schedules/?team=thunder
