Chiefs signed sixth-round WR Kevin Robinson to a three-year contract.

Robinson has excellent timed speed and caught 55 passes as a senior at Utah State, but averaged only 11.6 yards per catch. The Chiefs are looking at him as a return prospect. He'll battle B.J. Sams for those duties in camp.

He should win the return job. I think he could end up with a few catches this year even.

I hope he wins the return job cause I was kinda hopin that we cut BJ Sams cause he just returns. and Robinson can play reciever 2

Robinson would definitely give us more options, would be a more versatile player. It would be nice to have a return man that can do other things as well. Seems wasteful to have a return specialist eating up a roster spot.

Also, Robinson doesn't (to the best of my knowledge, which is admittedly limited) have the injury history that Sams does. My understanding was that at this point, no one is really sure if Sams is going to be nearly as good as he once was.

Robinson is younger than Sams, he doesn't have an injury history, he can play WR also where as Sams can't do anything else, and Robinson had a way better KR/PR college career(and also WR carreer) than Sams. I said this since the draft, Robinson will be our PR, Robinson and Charles will be our two KR guys. Sams shouldn't make the roster.

I don't care who returns! As long as whoever it is, is alot better then what we had last year. But I'm sure you guy's are right Robinson makes more sense due just to the flexiblity alone.

Last years mess wasn't just the return man, it was the blocking also.

I realize that, but it wasn't like who we had back there was a real threat to take it to the house either.

Yeah I know, they must let anyone into the Pro Bowl these days.

I agree Rust. I have thought for awhile that Sams would end up getting cut. Especially since they have been using Charles and Robinson. I have never seen video of Robinson, but I watch quite a bit of Big XII football and Charles was electric.

Does not make sense to have an old kickreturner they tend to lose their ability to return kicks when they get older maybe I am wrong but to me it looks like young guys are better returners...

they would certainly tend to be more explosive and generally faster just because they haven't lost a step to age. I have no data to go from, but it seems that you have made a reasonable statement. It seems that pure speed is often the biggest weapon a returner has. Good field vision and quick decision making are also important.
