ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic signed veteran free-agent point guard Anthony Johnson on Tuesday.

Johnson will back up starter Jameer Nelson as he enters his 12th NBA season. He played in 69 games last season for the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings.

Johnson had a brief stint with Orlando in the 1999-2000 season, appearing in 18 games.

The 33-year-old guard has played with seven different teams, averaging 5.7 points and 2.9 assists.

Otis is killing us. Forget Jason Williams. Im ok with the Anthony Johnson pick up only if he can pick up Crittenton.

Yeah we need some youth at the PG position, besides Jameer, i posted in the other thread an article that said they are still trying to get him though.

I think this eliminates a Crittenton deal...

I'm going to assume (hope) J-Will signs for more than the minimum, which will explain why we took Johnson ahead of J-Will, and explains why we didn't at least wait for him to sign before we moved on.

Not too upset with it, unless we find out Otis chose him over Williams (highly doubtful). He is bigger than Williams, and probably the better defender. Johnson also can knock down open threes, probably better than Williams. He's only a year older too...though we could use a youthful PG, which is only possible via trade now.

And I really don't think it eliminates the Crittenton deal, assuming it is more than a rumor. It probably is more than just a rumor, but very few trades actually get completed even once they're being discussed.

Otis gave him the contract that Dooling rejected (3.8 for 2 years), can J-Wills get more than the minimum?

I'm just praying for Otis' sake (since people are quick to jump on him), that he does get more than the minimum. I want to believe, and do believe, that Otis weighed his options, and concluded that we couldn't afford J-Will, or something, and then moved on to plan B. They obviously have been talking for a while now, so maybe it just became clear that a deal couldn't be worked out. But who knows.

And the fact that on the same day the magic sign anthony johnson (who?) the clippers trade a SECOND ROUND pick to the nuggets all defensive center marcus camby, but i'd say otis got this one right

with regards to what I just wrote, I do realize that there was no chance the magic had a chance of getting camby because of the salary cap, just thought it was a slap in the face that the magic were looking for a defending big man and one of the best in the nba went for a second round pick.

I don't think that the A Johnson Deal was a bad move...... J Will wants much more than the Bi Annual Excp. I still think that Ottis is looking for an extra PG (young one) but i am almost sure that if he doesn't get one he will go after D. Armstrong..... what i think could be a nice addition

The guy has tons of experience, our fans love him, is a great locker room guy.... and should play just about 15 min/game.....

Maybe Ottis will go after Doleac too....the guy defends well and can hit the mid jumper

Good signing, hopefully the deal with Javaris Crittenton goes through.

If you know anything about the magics, you would know that we offered dooling that contract and he rejected it.

I guess this means that Dooling told them he's not coming back at half the amount that he made last season. He will end up on a worse team because of it though.

I honestly think it means we're desperate because of this signing of Anthony Johnson.

^ IDK why not Willams, but i looks like Otis is fond of AJ for his D and w/e and wanted him a long time ago. Otis BS for you and the reason we won't win a Championship under him.
