My friends and I were discussing this as the game went deeper and deeper.

Moot point now, but we eventually decided that Selig is too ****ing full of himself to let his brainchild of a traveschamockery become a tie. So, why the hell not - he'd force Hurdle and Francona to send position players out there.

The guys we came up with?

Drew pitches for the AL in the 17th, since he has a respectable arm and Francona would have to be more likely to jeopardize his own players before he'd go with someone elses.

As for the AL - we came up with Quentin. I was watching it with a decent contingent of Sox fans, and they went on and on about CQ's arm and how he's not too young to be jeopardizing his health or too old to risk throwing out there. I said maybe Sizemore but as I was arguing it, Corey Hart decided he didn't wanna play baseball anymore and that was that.

Buck said something about Francona asking Kazmir something in the dugout, followed up by the latter "shaking his head" (I think he meant nodding his head') yes, so I'm guessing he would've tried to go one more inning, and if it went on too long or wasn't a 1-2-3, they would've forfeited.

Here's my take on the ASG for future years...

I agree with Bob Brenly.

If the game is going to "mean something" and give the winning league HFA, then the managers should be able to choose their teams, not the fans.

Besides that, this crap where EVERY player needs to get in the game is stupid as well. Let the managers from each league build an all-star team and play it like any other game. Reduce the rosters to around 30-35 as well and get rid of the crap rule that every teams HAS to have a representative.

Now THAT would be good to watch and a truer measuring stick of which league is actually better.

This I agree with, but these are not gonna happen. What I DO know, is that we were all immersed in an ASG. Not even that crappy tie was worth a crap, or had impact.

Tonight was great, because it meant something. The players put it down.

I was watching the game from out in Pittsburgh, so I was up until 2AM watching this one.

I used to really like Dan Uggla as a player, but what the hell happened to him last night? He lost all confidence in the field and at the plate. Oh, by the way, what's wrong with David Wright? Geez. I was just waiting for him to get a hold of one; he saw some great pitches that he just swung through.

The Cubs pitching was great, and I think it really built some more confidence in mowing down those All-Star hitters in moving forward for the second half, especially for Marmol, who really stepped it up considering the tough times last week.

So, from a Cubs perspective, this was a good, posititve game.

The AL just had the better players late in the game. I thought Cook was the MVP of the game in a losing cause.

Brad Lidge was, well, Brad Lidge. We've seen that crap how many times before from him?

I really thought the NL was going to steal that game, and I thought that the way they were consistently getting out of all those jams was just a sign that it was meant to be.

I was wrong.

In 06 after the Bears went to Lambeau and won that first game I told my dad that was going to be a special season. I have the same feeling about the cubs this year.

So last night was like October to me. I felt the NL was playing for us to get home field. We are a different team at home and losing that advantage last night over a faking all star game hurts bad. We really needed that.

Agreed. I really wasn't into it at the beginning (I had it on but wasn't totally paying attention to it) but when it got to the 7th or so that's when I got interested in it.

I even delayed watching The Deadliest Catch so that I could see the end of the game.

From now on, every time the Cubs don't score at least 1 run with the bases loaded and none out, I'll point to the AL's identical situation vs. Aaron Cook.
