I have a friend who says if he started spring training for a mlb team and got his 4 at bats or so every game for the whole year he would get a few hits,a HR, and one stolen base.He is 36,in good shape and has decent speed. He also has never played any organized sports growing up,and has know baseball experience...Do you think he could achieve these goals?

Thanks

Learn to spell "no". It's a very easy word. Not to be confused with "know".

um are you guys serious.

I GUARANTEE if i joined the mlb right now and played an entire season, practiced as well and started, i would bat more than .050 for the entire season. improvement happens....

and fielding is easy i have a better arm than lee and damon combined, for sure, i would be a mediocre fielder only because of my bad speed.....

Wow, I can't picture him not making it. He should travel to every spring training location and show the scouts what they are missing. I am pumped to hear more about this friend you have. Maybe all 3 of us could go grab a beer and tell each other stories. Lets see I will tell you that I could play in the NFL and you could start a thread about me. Do you want to do that? It will be fun, just let me know the we you guys are free.

it aint that farfetched.....i mean if u put me on a roster rite now and i played about 150 games i could say that i could probably hit at least .235/15 homers/and prolly like 70 rbi's......i bet ima hear wat is this guy an idiot welll chilllll b/c i have hit college talent in the mid 90's and if im gettin around 450 at bats (150 games X 3 at bats a game) i could pretty easily hit 15 dingers

Just to help you guys out some, scouts equate most elite college confrences to low to high A with a small scattering of AA talent. So even with hittign college talent there is a long way to go to major league fastballs and off speed stuff

Havoc Wreaker

never played baseball before?
One year of practice will not work that fast, a hit would be a difficult thing to get when you've never seen a pitch and all of the sudden you are getting 90mph balls thrown at you, a HR NO WAY IN HELL

Wait, so what major league team would sign a guy that only expects to get 4 hits over the entire year?

the mets sure could use ur bat in the outfield, so your saying your a better hitter than a majority of backups, middle infielders, and catchers in the major leagues ...... get real

Say my Grandpa is only 70 and hes had rotator cuff surgery and a lot more stuff, he can hit the wiffle ball as far as i can see. Any cheance of him making the mlb, hed be a good A player you know. He doesnt have the speed.

Kid are you serious. Big Dreams that should have been pursued only 30 years earlier. So you think my grandpa can play?:mad: :sarcasm

you guys are taking this like the guy thinks he is going to be signed to the mlb... all he said was his friend thinks he'd be able to get a few hits and ya know what, i completely agree, i cant see him hitting a homerun, and stealing a base is actually alot harder than most people think. but without a doubt, anyone of us with any athletic talent what so ever would get 1 or 2 hits if we had 500 abs a year, im pretty sure thats all the original poster was talking about.

'Pretty easily' hit 15 dingers? Man you're full of yourself. I guarantee you would not hit one HR IF you ever got the chance, which you wont

No way a 36 year old with no baseball experience would be able to get even 1 hit. Obviously he won't be able to even make and stay on a team but I think he wants us to imagine that. If maybe it was a 36 year old who played high school baseball and plays in a softball league now would be able to scatter around a few hits. But thats it.

Wow.

Do you have any idea how long it takes the best 20 year old athletes to make it to the majors? Do you know how many specifics you have to learn? I didn' even learn how to properly hold a bat 'til I was in High School. What a major league idiot.

Never mind. His friend's probably Air Bud or something.

If he got 500 at-bats, I wouldn't doubt a few hits at all. He's bound to get lucky. Hell, he might connect on a long ball too.

But he'd still be awful.
