View Full Version : More Rumors have Marion linked to Warriors for Ellis and Biedrins

kntresistheheat

There are other situations still brewing. The most notable involves another Warriors guard, Monta Ellis, who is a restricted free agent and, according to multiple sources, has a desire to play in D'Antoni's system. A person with knowledge of the situation said a sign-and-trade is a long shot, however, because a third team would have to be involved to make the deal work for both sides. The Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers are in hot pursuit, just in case Warriors executive Chris Mullin decides to trade Ellis.

Andris Biedrins, a restricted free agent with the Warriors, is also expected to draw interest, as are possible trades for the Miami Heat's Shawn Marion and the New York Knicks' Zach Randolph

That don't even sound half right...Ellis and Biedrins being traded away?? Come on now!! That's GS's future, and I seriously don't see that one happening. Another bogus rumor being floated around this time of year.

GS would be crazy, if not stupid to trade Ellis and Biedrins for Marion. Ellis is the only option they have at PG and is an up and coming star and Biedrins is a solid big.

I don't see this happening.

This is the stupidest idea ive heard.. if you know anything about GS then youd know this aint happening.. Mullin isnt going to sacrifice the future f the team by giving away young talented players .. For the last year hes been saying hes not letting go of either Monta or Biedrens. besides marion isnt worth 2 good players.. Keep dreaming Miami fans

If any deal is going to happen GS will trade Harrington for Hienrich or Billups -- something like that -- Mullin is already down a PG and just said yesterday that Monta is the starting PG

I like Marion's game, but he could just be a one year rental, definitely not worth a young superstar in Ellis and the perfect fit for center in Nellie's system, Biedrins.

I don't think i trade like this would EVER happen. Mullin is building the Warriors around his two young stars, and he won't trade them for a one year rental.

thank you, this goes against every bit of planning that Mullin has been doing.. One of the reasons they didnt give Baron the contract he wanted because he wanted Monta to inherit the team and build around him and Biedrens.. Hes said many times and just yesterday he belives Monta can run the point heres an excerpt from an article today,

" Chris Mullin had a plan. Baron Davis was barely in that plan.

And once Davis took himself out of that plan, Mullin was quite ready to move on to all the other things he wanted to do with the Warriors.

After Baron - that enormously talented, stubborn, charming, frustrating and often energy-sapping superstar.

Now this is unquestionably Monta Ellis' team, which is a lot to put on a young player who has never played point guard full time. But that's the plan. It was two months ago, two weeks ago and it definitely is now.

"I'm pretty comfortable with him handling the ball whenever," Mullin said late Wednesday of Ellis, breaking 12 days of Warriors front-office silence after Davis' decision to opt out and leave for the Clippers.

"I'm pretty comfortable with (Ellis) dictating a lot with the ball in his hands.""

NO WAY! Hinrich and Gooden for Marion. We tryin to get rid of the expiring contracts not take them in. Hinrich has a bad deal, no cap spae in 2010 for us as well. Bulls wouldn't do it either, would you?

I heard the rumor was about Marion for Biedrins mainly. Other players could be involved also of course, but I'm not sure how Ellis gets thrown in all of a sudden.

As a Heat fan I'd obviously love it if it happened, but Marion for both Biedrins and Ellis sounds unrealistic to me.

It would screw the Warriors over in having a good big man left.

Let me add that we are not desperate about trading Marion right now, so there is no hurry.

Sure the team has needs, but being patient and waiting untill a good deal comes along later on in the (off)season is allright too.

Actually the Biedrins part of the deal is the most realistic part.

Without Ellis they wouldn't have a ball handling guard left either.

But if they want to deal for someone of Marion's caliber something's got to go.

On the Warriors roster, tell me what Center can give you a guaranteed 12 pts, 10 rebs, and a block or two every game?

Biedrins is a HUGE/IMPORTANT asset to this team.

Marion would do a great job (like he always would) but he wouldn't play center. So replacing Biedrins would be a hard thing to do. A team with no rebounds = a team that loses.

I know what it means to their team, but still the Biedrins part of the rumor supposedly is the most realistic part out there. Biedrins is the one I've seen mentioned as being available for trade a number of times now. We never know how much truth there is to rumors like these anyway.

Oh I see.

I kind of jumped the gun there.

I was thinking that you thought the Marion for Biedrins trade was realistic (like a great trade idea).

I doubt this trade works.

This is just something to cause drama and make people chat over. (Clearly it's working)

I think it is a great trade idea for the Heat yes :D

The Warriors have so much cap space (and a large trade exception) they can take big contracts back while giving up a much smaller one.

For Miami it would mean getting a center, although still not a real tough one, and getting instant cap space.

Just as an example: the Warriors could give us Biedrins, signed to an extension worth about $12M a year, and get Marion, Blount and Banks (worth $25M+) from us. Imo it wouldn't be smart for them either, but it would work financially.

Well that would be messed up on the Warriors part. After all, a trade is supposed to benefit both teams :)

Well then again, this would give Warriors money to shop for another Center, correct?

I think they have about $25M to spend right now, probably even more, and they have a $10M trade exception gained in the trade with the Bobcats.

Well then I do see this trade possibly going somewhere.

But like I said in the other post...

This is probably just a false rumor.. Something to cause drama and give people something to talk about...

the trade exception expired a week and a half ago... the warriors dont need to spend money just to spend it.. this trade aint happening.. and they are only about 8 mill under the cap now..

I haven't gone through these 4 pages to this thread but if this deal happened the Heat would go from worst to major contender in the East. Monta, Wade, Haslem, Beidrins and Beasley would be a helluva lineup. It won't happen thoug becuase then the Warriors would go to a bellow .500 team picking in the top 6 next year and I wouldn't think their GM is that messed up in the head.

Like Flash said, haven't read the 4 pages, but I'm guessing everyone knows that the trade isn't going down like that. No one in their right mind would trade two up and coming stars for an over the hill expiring contract. I know someone like Chris Mullin wouldn't. Plus Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson and Anthony Randolph kinda eliminate the need for Marion no?

I don't see how the warrors could deal their future PG and only reliable Center for a PF.
They'd be losing way to much and set this team back for at least 3-5 years. If Marion didn't resign, then it'd be far worse.
That deal would put the Heat in top contention for the East.

News Flash you Miami Nerds! WE ARE NOT TRADING MONTA AND BIEDRINS FOR MARION!!!! Why would we trade our future away for a guy that will play a year or 2 with us than leave? its not happening so get over it!! If Mullin did that deal he would be beheaded!!

The first post in this thread is kinda misleading. It has two different rumors but the headline sayd marion for ellis and biedrins. Its actually 3 different rumors marion to the warriors, and biedrins and ellis possibly being traded, all put together. Trading Monta and Andris for Marion would be like trading Lebron for Adonal Foyle... No way in the world this goes down, and its pretty pointless to even think about it.

calm down dude....Lebron for Foyle is a little much..Marion is an all star type player an one of the best sf's in the league. Anyway we just wondering whata Heat lineup would be with the 2. Of course it wont happen, Well if it does then im pretty sure mullens has lost it. But i think the warriors will do something else, soon.

Marion attracting lots of interest

With Shawn Marion and the Heat expected to resume contract talks shortly, several teams -- including the Clippers and Golden State -- have expressed interest in acquiring him. The issue, though, will be whether any offers will be more appealing than keeping Marion long-term or allowing his deal to expire next summer to sign Utah's Carlos Boozer.

Though Pat Riley said he wants to keep Marion, Miami's first offer wasn't close to Marion's wishes.

The Warriors like Marion, 30, and likely would deal Al Harrington (due $9.2 million and $10.2 million over the next two years), but appear reluctant to include restricted free agent center Andris Biedrins in a sign-and-trade. Point guard Monta Ellis told the Warriors that Miami is among teams he would love to be traded to, but Golden State hasn't been receptive. A Marion-Warriors scenario might need a third team.

The Clippers like Marion (due $17.8 million in 2008-09) and were willing to do a sign-and-trade involving Elton Brand and Marion after it became clear Brand wouldn't re-sign. But Brand was headed to Philadelphia by then, and the Clippers now lack appealing assets to acquire Marion.

Toronto pursued Marion before the draft, but the Heat declined a package including T.J. Ford (then dealt to Indiana) and wasn't interested in Jermaine O'Neal (who went to Toronto in that trade and has a big contract). Chicago likes Marion and likely would be willing to trade Larry Hughes and another piece, but Hughes' contract is unappealing (two years left at $12.8 million and $13.6 million).

The most logical hypothetical would be Marion to the Lakers for Lamar Odom (one year left at $14.5 million) and Chris Mihm ($2.5 million), but the Lakers first said publicly they're keeping Odom, and now, according to the Sacramento Bee, have offered Odom for Sacramento's Ron Artest. A Marion/Artest trade would hurt Miami because the Heat would have to assume the last two years of either Kenny Thomas' or Shareef Abdur-Rahim's bloated contracts.

With sentiment growing that Mario Chalmers could become a starting point guard eventually, the Heat has less incentive to assume large long-term contracts such as Kirk Hinrich's (four years, $36.5 million left).

So Miami's most affordable point-guard trade options include Memphis' Kyle Lowry (one year, $1.6 million), New Orleans' Mike James (two years, $12.5 million), Houston's Steve Francis (one year, $2.6 million) or Bobby Jackson (one year, $6 million), and Seattle's Luke Ridnour (two years, $13 million), with New York's Stephon Marbury or Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley in play if they're bought out.

Biedrins is our ONLY center, POB is with the Knicks, and Perovic(isn't even playing summer league with the Dubs, likely back to Europe).

After Biedrins, our next big guy is 6'10" 205 pound Brandan Wright and 6'8" rookie PF Richard Hendrix.

Biedrins is going nowhere, neither is Monta.

All you Heat fans don't get excited, and Warriors fans, we can stay calm, Mullin may overpay for players, but he don't make stupid trades. Ex. We overpayed Fyle but we got baron for almost nothing. Also Harrington and Sjax deal was great for teh Warriors as well.

this won't happen. the Warriors are completely SET at SF/PF position, with Maggette, S-Jax, Harrington, and Ronny. They don't need Marion.

Monta Ellis is a young star, Andris Biedrins is a quality young center.

I'd rather take the Odom + Mihm trade for Marion. Why take on these fresh salaries when neither of them will help us win a championship? We're on the right path. Why blow it committing long term money to these two?

GS would get raped in that trade. Miami would turn old man Shaq into Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins and Marcus Banks.

That's exactly what I said earlier.

GSW would get screwed in this trade because there wouldn't be another 10/10 center in the game.
