LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Clippers said Wednesday that they had renounced their rights to Shaun Livingston, the recuperating guard who is an unrestricted free agent, and four other players.

Shaun Livingston

Livingston

The other players are Dan Dickau, Boniface Ndong, Smush Parker and James Singleton.

Livingston, taken by Los Angeles as the fourth overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft, hasn't played since injuring his left knee in a game on Feb. 26, 2007.

The Clippers declined to give him a $5.8 million qualifying offer this summer.

According to the NBA collective bargaining agreement, a renounced player no longer counts toward team salary, so teams use renouncement to gain additional cap room. A team can still re-sign such a player, but the team must either have enough salary cap room to fit the salary, or sign the player using the minimum salary exception.

After renouncing a player, a team also can trade him in a sign-and-trade agreement.

Maybe he can be included in a deal for Marion. Chris Sherdian said the most likely destinations for Marion would be LA and GS. And I think a deal for Marion is inevitable. We don't plan on extending him and we have a huge whole a center to fill. A deal is imminent and it will involve Marion.

Seriously Livingston can't shoot. He adds nothing to what we need (3pt shooting and defense)

That's a lie. Livingston never played an above the rim game, his game was based on headiness and high basketball I.Q. He was averaging 9 ppg, 5 apg 3 rpg to 2 turnovers in his last season...in 29 minutes. Those are damn good numbers in technically his 2nd season. He was also coming off a 14 point 14 assist game when he got hurt. He was on his way to reaching his potential. And his potential was big time. He still has great potential and if he is rehabing the right way, his knee will be even stronger than it was before.

...and yet that still doesn't change the fact that we have no money to offer him...

If the Clippers don't land Josh Smith, they could be in the running for Marion. Chris Sherdian reported this Wednesday.

The Clippers have nothing worth Marion, except Kaman. Thats why Im loving hearing that the Clippers are interested. Maybe Kaman and Tim Thomas/Mobley for Marion. I really doubt it tho.

They arent going to give up Kaman for Marion unless they are planning on running a run and gun type offense and think Kaman will slow them down...

I agree, I just dont see anybody on their team worth being talked about. The only other option, would maybe be to send them Marion for a low salary because they have the cap room for it. Then we make a push for Smith/Okafor with the cap room we receive.

how about Shawn Marion/mark blount for Al Thornton/Livingston... straight up... then we sign either okafor or biedrins... for about 10 mil a year

Chalmers/Livingston/Banks
Wade/Jones/Cook
Thornton/Wright/Powell
Beasley/Haslem/Lasme
Okafor/Blount/Zo/Anthony

very young and maybe not to great next year... but good by 2010...

I know the Clippers won't do it but i'd be interested in taking Al Thornton and let say Deandre Jordan for Marion and maybe throw in Wright or Cook or both...

And we'd still have money to sign let say Monta Ellis

I dont know much about Biedrins, I know he's young, improving, good rebounder. But is he strong enough to bang with other big centers and pf's?
