OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—The Mariners have released first baseman Richie Sexson.

Sexson was hitting .218 in 74 games with Seattle this season, striking out 76 times in 252 at-bats. He agreed in December 2004 to a $50 million, four-year contract.

It would be to much disrespect to Connor Jackson, unless sexson takes a bench role. I doubt that he would b/c he can dh for a team like KC,NYY,CLE and BOS(with Ortiz's absense). Or even start at 1b for SF,NYM,

I could see the Jays possibly taking a chance. They seem to do that a lot with released or unwanted players (Wilkerson, Mench, Stewart). With Vernon Wells out 4-6 weeks again, and the Jays struggling to score runs all year, maybe this could be a smart move to see if Sexson can regain some of his skill level shown in the past.

i really don't see why the jays would try to sign him this late into the season. they are trying to trade away overpriced players, not sign them. the difference in them signing wilkerson/mench is that some thought they would still be in the hunt. that and jp ricardi is a fool. and by the way, the reason they signed stewart is they THOUGHT he would be an upgrade over reed johnson.

Is a 107 career OPS+ 3B worth 13 mill per on the free market?

Possibly....especially since he's a stud defensively, too.

The only thing Sexson has going for him is that he doesn't stink as badly as I do... damn chilli.

picking up sexson wouldnt be a waste of money at all. he wouldnt be overpriced to them. The jays are not completely out of it, theyre still around
.500 and yet to play up to their full potential

And BY THE WAY, they signed Stewart because we was roughly 2 MIL cheaper then Johnson, not because they thought he would be an upgrade, which most people in baseball agreed he would not be.
