I made a new thread for it because this post would probably get snowed under in the other thread.

ORLANDO - Former University of Miami 3-point specialist James Jones has agreed to become a member of the Miami Heat.

Jones, a Miami native who attended American High, is signing a contract that, a source said, would guarantee two seasons with the Heat at a starting salary of about $4 million.

The contract also has three additional years, but allows the Heat maneuverability for the 2010 free-agency period.

With the offer to Jones almost certainly means the Heat would now have to turn to the trade market to fill its voids at center and point guard.

The addition of Jones seemingly would signal the end of the second Heat stint for Davis and also potentially require some thinning out of a rotation at shooting guard, small forward and power forward that otherwise would feature Jones, Michael Beasley, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem, Dwyane Wade, Daequan Cook and Dorell Wright.

So we have 1.8 million of the MLE left, Yeah we're going to have to trade somebody for a center. That would bring in an alright backup, not the greatest.

not even... the heat are so sure about Chalmers now they are offering him MORE then the rookie scale money... This guy must have really really impressed Riley and Arison/Pfund for them to offer him more money considering he was going to be with us whether he got more money or not...

I think it's a classy thing to do since Chalmers could have gone in the later stages of the first round also.

$1.8 million isn't a relevant amount anyway to sign a free agent, so might as well give it to Chalmers.

Now that we have James Jones we should use the left over money and sign Keyon Dooling since the Magic can't and trade Marcus Banks for Steven Hunter.

Dooling/Chalmers/Quinn
Wade/Jones/Cook
Marion/Wright
Beasley/Haslem
Blount/Hunter or Zo/Hunter/Blount

I agree 100%. Dooling and Wade wud be an amazing backcourt. He can share the minutes equally with Chalmmers till he develops. We like Chalmmers now but dont know how hed perform in the playoffs.

Actually now that you bring up Dooling, this probably means Dooling is out of the picture. We have about $1.8M left of the MLE, and I'm sure Dooling will not sign for that.

I didn't really think Dooling would add that much to the team anyway to be honest.

A minor sign&trade could still happen of course. Banks for Dooling or something like that.

Dooling is not an upgrade, he's a back up...You might as well start Chalmers then...Wade alone is amazing and Dooling is just mediocre...Ellis/Wade or Davis/Wade is an amazing backcourt!

I like Steven Hunter, if we can get him for Marcus Banks that'll clearly be to our advantage...
