The NBA salaray cap for the 2008-09 season will be $58.68 million, ESPN.com has learned.

The figure was arrived at after daylong consultations between lawyers for the NBA and the players' union.

The luxury tax threshold will be $71.15 million, and the value of the mid-level exception will be $5.585 million. Over-the-cap teams can only offer the mid-level exception to free agents.

The league's moratorium on trades and free-agent signings expires at midnight on Tuesday, and three teams -- the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers -- had been waiting on the exact cap figure to determine the size of the offers they can make to Elton Brand, who had become the No. 1 free-agent target of all three teams. ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Tuesday evening that Brand has given a verbal commitment to the 76ers.

Now it says that Deng and Gordon will make the following right now

Ben Gordon $6,404,749
Luol Deng $4,452,574

If both players got 12.5 million a year then our salary situation for next year would be:

$63,513,850 and that's not including Rose who will make $4 million I believe. Thus we would be paying 67.5+ million next year if we gave both Deng and Gordon 12.5 million and signed Rose to 4 million.

It changes nothing, we'll only have the MLE.

Yeah, everyteam gets that, but I'm more curious on if it affects negotiations with Deng or Gordon? Do they get more now or less or relatively the same?

How would the Salary cap effect how much Deng or Gordon get? They are going to get what Mangement thinks that they are worth.

Well the cap doesn't so much matter to us as the luxury threshold does.. but these numbers are what everyone expected them to be. Pax knew full well the luxury cap would be in the 70-72 range. The Bulls will NOT go over this number, that is a guarantee, so if they can't get Deng and Gordon and stay under that number, expect a move.

Just a follow up, assuming we pick up the JamesOn Curry option for $711k, we're left with $18,065,000 to spend. With Deng looking for about 12 million a year, and Gordon commanding 8 or 9, we might be able to make it work by backloading the contracts. Other options include releasing Curry, or making a little salary space by trading Hinrich or Noc.
