Giants Rumors: Durham, Aurilia, Vizquel
By Tim Dierkes [July 8 at 4:41pm CST]
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News talked to Giants GM Brian Sabean about his deadline plans. By the way, you can download Sabean's trade history here.

Sabean may make an acquisition to aid the '08 club, which is only five games out. However, he won't acquire players who will become free agents after the season. He compared his situation to '05, when the Giants added Randy Winn for Jesse Foppert and Yorvit Torrealba.
Unlike that deal, the Giants are not going to move any of their young pitchers.
Ray Durham, Rich Aurilia, and Omar Vizquel are prime candidates to be traded. Durham told Baggarly he wouldn't use his 10-and-5 rights to block a deal. The second baseman was recently linked to the Brewers by Ken Rosenthal.
Henry Schulman noted a few days ago that Sabean is "not thinking of trading Randy Winn or Bengie Molina."

Sabean's awful. He's next in line to get fired now that the clown Bavasi has been ousted.

If anyone is next in line to get fired its not Sabean. It'll be Ricciardi....then Sabean

Listening to Sabean discuss GM strategy would be like listening to Tyson debating what Shakespeare play is the best.

God, Sabean belives the Giants are contending for whatever reason. He refuses to trade the only guys who have any value at all(Molina, Winn) and the Giants will continue to hang around in the terrible NL West instead of building for the future.....sigh

Sabean has made some horrific moves. If he can get anything at all for Vizquel though I don't see how he could possibly be a loser in that.

Truly the worst GM in all of baseball.

If he had half a brain, he'd start selling some of his players with big contracts immediately (i.e. randy winn, ray durham, rich aurillia). There is really no reason for them to be on that team, it's not like they are contenders.

To Sabean's credit, he has also made some good trades. But the bad ones clearly out weight it since the most recent ones hurt like hell..

Notable trades:
Matt Williams and Trent Hubbs for Jeff Kent, Julian Taveraz, Jose Vizcaino and Joe Roa

Allen Watson and Fausto Macey for J.T Snow

Joe Fantanot, Mike Pagelar, and Mike Villano for Robb Nen

Armando Rios and Ryan Vogelsong for Jason Schmidt and John Van Der Wal

Yorvit Torrealba and Jesse Foppert for Randy Winn

Cannot stand the Giants but they just should have resigned Bonds now he wants to add to the team, what a joke. They are not going anywhere, trade Durham, Molina and Winn, you can probably get some decent talent back from them to add to the already budding nucleus, let Vizquel go out on his own terms unless a team is interested in trading for him soley for his defense.
