Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan pretty much confirmed what we here at HOOPSWORLD have been thinking, by saying the starting lineup for the Blazers will likely be Steve Blake, Brandon Roy, Martell Webster, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden. That means much-hyped rookies Jerryd Bayless and Rudy Fernandez will start the season coming off the bench, as will Travis Outlaw. McMillan still prefers Outlaw off the bench because of the scoring punch he brings to the second unit, even if people would seem to think he's a much more dynamic player than Webster has proven to be so far.

It's not as much a vote for confidence of Webster as one might think, but he is a very, very good shooter who stands to see more open looks with defenses collapsing around Oden in the middle next season. If Webster can prove he can hit open three-pointers with regularity by way of kickouts from Oden, the fact he sometimes lingers on the perimeter may become much less of an issue.

McMillan's comments also seemed to leave much room for interpretation on how the season will go. Obviously 99% of it will be determined by who plays well and how all the new faces (how many other teams are mixing in possibly four new rookies, with Bayless, Oden, Fernandez, and maybe Nicholas Batum?) mesh with each other and with the veterans. Yes, on this team, Roy and Aldridge are unquestionably veterans. At some point it seems likely either Fernandez or Bayless gets a chance to start, even if no injuries occur.

Either way, Portland fans are about besides themselves with giddiness, anticipating a 2007-08 season (and beyond) that could be very satisfying. At least, it seems that way don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but this team is incorporating a ton of change, so don't be surprised to see them struggle a bit at first.

Portlands going to have a sick run over the next decade. Especially if Batum and Fernandez are as good as their billed to be.

Blake is a starter on that team? lol. IMO it should be:
PG- Bayless
SG- Roy
SF- Outlaw
PF- Aldridge
C- Oden

Webster can bring scoring off the bench.

The future is bright for Portland. You can only wonder what kind of team they'll become when everyone is playing as a unit and when they get better over the years.
