Scouting Report:

Reds: Originally scheduled to face the Nationals, Harang was pushed back to Tuesday due to stiffness in his right forearm. Harang's velocity wasn't where it usually is in his last start, against the Pirates on Monday, but his stuff was still pretty good. The right-hander pitched seven solid innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts, but received a no-decision. Harang has just one win in his last nine starts and is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA through three career games against the Nationals.

Cubs: It was the same old routine for Dempster in his previous start. The righty pitched well at AT&T Park -- six innings of two-run ball on five hits and seven strikeouts -- and he walked away without a decision. The Cubs won, but Dempster was pulled in the seventh, up 5-2, and then watched Carlos Marmol cough up three runs. He's pitched eight times on the road and hasn't won once. Meanwhile, he's 9-0 at Wrigley Field.

Scouting Report:

Reds: Cueto gave the Reds' overworked bullpen the rest it needed in his last start, against the Nationals on Thursday. The 22-year-old rookie pitched seven solid innings, giving up just three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out eight. He threw just 95 pitches, with 66 going for strikes. Cueto has given up just six runs in his last four starts. His only career start against the Cubs came on May 5, when he pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Cubs: Zambrano looked well rested and sharp in his first start coming off the disabled list last Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The right-hander threw six shutout innings and struck out five. He gave up four hits, and only two got out of the infield. He had good tempo and command of his pitches. The Cubs limited him to 87 pitches in the outing, and he'll probably be able to go deeper against the Reds. He's 2-0 this season against Cincinnati.

Scouting Report:

Reds: After what he called "the worst outing" of his career on June 24 in Toronto, Arroyo has posted two of his better starts of the season, his last coming on Friday, as he shut down the Nationals and led Cincinnati to a 3-0 victory. Arroyo pitched six shutout innings and gave up just five hits, walking three and striking out three in helping the Reds to their fifth win in seven games. Arroyo likely would have lasted another inning, but went out of the game when a run-scoring situation came about and Cincinnati needed a pinch-hitter.

Cubs: Lilly gave up two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings in his last start against the Cardinals, but did not get a decision. St. Louis rallied against Kerry Wood for the win. The lefty was cruising until the sixth when Rick Ankiel led off with a homer. Lilly faced the Reds on April 17, and took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits over six innings while striking out six.

A sweep is very realistic, but with the way the Reds offense works, getting swept isn't out of the question. They can go off for 25+ runs in a three game series at any given time.

Yeah very true but I doubt that happens against 2 of the 3 pitchers the Cubs are throwing at them; Dempster, Z and Lilly. I think 2 of 3 in this series is very realistic. If the cubs can pull that, I will be happy.

I still think we need an easy series, ala this one, to get Wrigley back in the mix. He's been down working on things, he's got past the mental aspect, he's primed. I read somewhere, he won his last 8 decisions in Iowa. It's time to be recalled.

There were 7 or 8 balls thrown on the field and of course marty made it sound like they just threw 100 on the field. It's all good though, the Reds suck and he can just keep on whining about announcing for a sorry *** team.

I'm hoping we sweep as well. I'm so sick and tired of hearing already that the Brewers are the team to beat... like it's automatic now that they have Sabathia. I keep saying this, they don't have nearly the lineup that we have and the Cubs have been scuffling a bit as of late. When the offense heats back up, there won't be anyone who can catch them. :D

MoTowncubfan

I want nothing more this evening than to see the Cubs win big and Sabathia get shelled by the Rockies. Sadly, I doubt the Rockies are able to do that. With so much hype surrounding the start for CC tonight and the brewers acquisition, its all too fitting that he would have a dominate first game and keep the buzz alive.

If it were anyone but the Rockies, there may be hope in ruining it, but it is what it is...and I would imagine the chatter won't die down any time soon.

Good to see MIL lose yesterday though, dropping a 1/2 game back without the Cubs having to lift a finger.

I was watching the Brewers game last night after they announced the deal, and all they kept doing was cutting to the ticket office with extreme close-ups of the ticket sales people taking phone calls for the game tonight.

They kept giving "sell out" updates. "Ooh, we're only 3,500 tickets short of a sell out to see C.C."

Ah. Sadly i have to hear about all of this sell-out stuff all the time. The billboards up here had CC on them and every person i knew had to come up to me today and yesterday and talk about how great they are now and how teh world series is locked up now.

I read in the paper yesterday morning that the Brewers' payroll is up to 90 million and that they might not turn a profit this year.

Wow, there's a business decision, huh?

Now you know why they're showing the phone lines ringing.

Speaking of Marty, I was listening to him on the radio today, and he said he wasn't even scared about going to Chicago.. But the MLB called him and told him he will be assigned personal guards for this series in Chicago :laugh2:

I was watching the Brewers game last night after they announced the deal, and all they kept doing was cutting to the ticket office with extreme close-ups of the ticket sales people taking phone calls for the game tonight.

They kept giving "sell out" updates. "Ooh, we're only 3,500 tickets short of a sell out to see C.C."

It's funny, and yet sad, that this is the biggest news this organization's had since the WS in the early 80s.

We take this kind of stuff for granted here on the North Side.

no, not really. i live in Milwaukee and deal with fans daily. this was the same as the Nomar trade for them. that's what it felt like. we, as Cub fans, do NOT take anything for granted. what is there to take for granted? 100 years?
