Game 1

Monday, July 7 - 7:05 ET

BOS: RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-1, 3.12) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/matsuda01.shtml) vs MIN: RHP Scott Baker (5-2, 3.65) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/bakersc01.shtml)

Red Sox: Matsuzaka's only real problem in his last start was a familiar one -- he wasn't economical. The righty threw 101 pitches and walked five over just five innings. All the same, he allowed just two hits and a run against the Rays and was in position to get the win, only to have the Red Sox squander a 4-1 lead. Matsuzaka has given up 55 hits over 75 innings and is holding opponents to a .201 average. In seven Fenway starts, Matsuzaka is 5-1 with a 4.10 ERA.

Twins: Baker looked to be in complete control at the start of his last outing, retiring 10 of the first 11 batters he faced against the Tigers. Baker would give up three runs on seven hits over his six innings. He didn't issue a single walk and struck out five. Baker has started to settle in since health issues plagued him early in the year. Next up for Baker will be a start at Fenway Park. It will be his first start of the season against the Red Sox. Baker is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA against the club in one career appearance.

Game 2

Tuesday, July 8 - 7:05 ET

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_452657.jpg-------http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_448147.jpg

BOS: LHP Jon Lester (7-3, 3.21) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/l/lestejo01.shtml) vs MIN: RHP Nick Blackburn (7-4, 3.78) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/blackni01.shtml)

Red Sox: Lester pitched an outstanding game to shut out the Yankees on Thursday night. The lefty gave up just five hits and struck out eight to pick up his seventh win. Lester worked ahead in the count throughout the night to keep the Yankees off the scoreboard and off the bases. He recorded two consecutive walks to start off his performance, but they remained the only two walks he gave up. Lester threw 105 pitches and retired the final four batters he faced.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_452657.jpg

Twins: After finding trouble against the Tigers in two previous outings, Blackburn made some key adjustments in his last start. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits to Detroit while striking out four. Catcher Joe Mauer credited the change to Blackburn's ability to rely more on his curveball to keep hitters off his fastball. He'll try to see if he can do that once again in his next start at Fenway Park against the Red Sox. Blackburn allowed four runs in an inning during his lone career appearance against Boston last season.

Game 3

Wednesday, July 9 - 1:05 ET

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_277417.jpg-------http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_115817.jpg

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (8-5, 3.70) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/beckejo02.shtml) vs MIN: RHP Livan Hernandez (9-5, 5.18) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hernali01.shtml)

Red Sox: Beckett made his ninth straight start with at least six innings in the Red Sox's 6-4 win over the Yankees on Friday, allowing three earned runs, four hits and two walks in six frames. He wasn't perfect -- the Yankees made him work during his 102-pitch start -- but he got the job done.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_277417.jpg

Twins: After delivering his worst start of the year in Cleveland last month when he allowed seven runs in just three innings, Hernandez rebounded in his second career start against the Tribe. The right-hander delivered his 10th quality start of the season by allowing just three runs on five hits over six innings. Hernandez has been better with his location lately and the Twins hope that's the case when he faces Boston for the second time this season. Hernandez allowed just three runs over six innings while picking up the win in that contest.

Game three should be ours.

As for the other two, not so sure. Both Blackburn and Baker are quality pitchers. It'll be interesting.

We NEED to dominate. We need to win as many home games as humanly possible.

It would be sweet if you guys could win at least two here. The Twins forgot how to lose. What they've done in the last month has been sick.

i think we win 2 out of 3. that is if our bullpen holds up. if we lose this series, the way the rays are playing we could be n a big hole fast. we need this series and manny needs to start hitting!

Bases loaded 1 out....and our "Bermuda Triangle" comes up.

We take rallies into that part of the lineup....but then the rally suddenly disappears.

How's DiceK been tonight guys? I know he has a shut out going, but sometimes the score can be deceiving.. Is he all over the place? Or is he hitting his spots?

No, he wasn't all over the place at all.

Had a couple walks....but had good control.

Dice-K was phenominal tonight, but the criticism from the ESPN announcers got annoying. Dice-K will never go to the hall of fame, it was the right choice for Dice-K not to be an all star blahblahblahblah.

I was very impressed with Dice-K's performance, and think that this could be a positive start to a Red Sox winning streak. With Dice-K pitching well, Wakefield on a roll, Beckett being Beckett, Lester pitching well, and Buchholz hopefully coming up after owning in AAA, the pitching should be great. Hopefully, the bullpen can fix its problems very soon.

Right now, to me, it's about the offense.

Our pitching staff is hot as hell right now. Our bullpen doesn't seem like it's going to get better overnight. So, if our offense can start scoring like we know they can (Even 4-6 runs here and there), then we should win a heck of a lot of games, because the starting staff that should go at least 6 innings have been giving up VERY few runs.

Well I expect the offense to get going. All it takes is one guy to break him slump and get hot, and I think that guy will be Ellsbury. Once he gets on base at the leadoff position, Pedroia, being as hot as he is, will move him over, Drew and Manny can bring them home. If Ellsbury doesn't get hitting soon, take him out of the leadoff role and put Pedroia, Youk, or Coco there until he does hit.

I think the Twins are going through a great moment, while the Red Sox are not, but all in all I think Boston will win the series with two games and just one victory for Minnesota...

Great win! Glad that Manny is the one that got it!!!

By the way, since when did Papelbon forget how to throw anything but the fastball? Everyone knew Punto was going to get a hit off paps if he kept throwing the fastball. He was right on the pitch and fouled off like 8 in a row. What happened to the splitter?? I haven't seen it the last 3 nights he has pitched!!!!

He threw a splitter on the pitch that Gardner hit for a Yankee win

Leftys only hitting in the .220s against Lopez and the Twins had 8 leftys in the lineup.

It turns out, our bullpen can protect an 11 run lead.

Good to know.

It was dicey there for a while. Beckett looked pretty bad. Threw a bunch of cutters. Didn't have his curve, and had no fastball command.

We're only 2 back of TB now, and we got Baltimore to finish things up before the all star break. We usually do well against Baltimore, so hopefully we can pick up another game or so on TB before the break.

But he brought in Lopez to face a righty. Who then proceeded to sinlge up the middle for an RBI. But, doesn't matter anyways. We still son. :D
