Carter. I'm more old school than anyone else on PSD and Carter's combination of flexibility, creativity, power, and lift give him an advantage over everyone else on this list, imo.

Dr. J was a lot more finesse than people think and Michael, while creative as all hell when he wanted to be, rarely threw the ball down with power--provided you weren't a former Georgetown center that pissed him off. And 'Nique, while also a great, great player, really only had 1 signature dunk in "the windmill"--albeit probably the best dunk in the history of the game.

wow the person who started this thread really doesn't know much about great dunkers. Kobe Bryant as a top 5 choice? NO WAY! Here's the top 5 in no particular order.

Shawn Kemp: Probably the best dunker ever. No one has ever combined power, hang-time, and finesse like he did. He floated through the air like a butterfly, and threw the dunk down like a dump truck! And his best dunks came in the middle of games, not a contest!

Michael Jordan: for his air and finesse during those memorable dunk contests of the 80s.

Vince Carter: Great blend of dunking talent, but certainly not the best ever.

Dominique Wilkins: His windmill jam was to basketball as Ken Griffey Jr's home run swing was to baseball.

Shaquille O'neal: I know you are all saying what the ****? But anyone who broke down the backboard, or even the whole hoop and post, as many times as he did, gets my nod. Maybe it's just me, but all that broken glass made for some memorable dunks.

(disclaimer: i was born in the early 80's, so I can't exactly comment accurately on dunkers before then. i'm sure Dr. J and a couple others may squeak in to my top 5, had i seen all their highlight reels.)

kemp could have been but his only down fall other than turning into oliver miller after going to cleveland was that he couldnt palm the ball. so he couldnt do alot of dunks but those allyoops were rediculous

agreeed. DR . J was just all aerobics and flexibility. he didnt show too much talent in creativity.

OBVIOUSLY you guys are forgetting JASON Richardson. I mean he is a 2 time slam dunk champion. and he was pretty damn good

Isiah Rider's East Bay Funk Dunk? Harold Miner?

Vince's dunks were sick, but MJ's were a piece of art. I read somewhere that someone saw sparks come off the rim when Kemp threw it down lol.

The two best in game dunkers are Nique and Jordan. They embarrased defenders.

Who cares what guys can do with no defense on the floor? The Dunk contest is usually filled with stiffs like that white druggie from a few years back.

I say Vince Carter.

Shawn Kemp was awesome. The guy flew in the air at times. He was an awesome dunker, shame he isnt on the list :pity:

And Kobe is on your list, and not Kemp??? you my friend is the one who is  and by the way Kemp was better than Jordan. All Jordan had was air and style, but no power. Kemp had air, style, and power. I remember watching his games as a little kid and when he threw down a dunk, the building shook!

I really hate him, but Shaq broke the rim.

those dunks were incredible. he broke more than the rim. he broke rims, backboards, hell, the entire post and base. one of those dunks should warrant him top 5 dunk of all time, but not a top 5 dunkER.

07-07-2008, 12:45 AM
And Carter did dunk over a 7 footer. Hit him on the head with his jewels on the way up he did.

keep in mind that "7 footer" was hunched over. not to take anything away from Vince Carter, he is a top 5 in my book, it's just that particular dunk is way over hyped.
