The Nuggets announced their roster Wednesday for the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The team begins practice July 10, with the first game July 12 against Philadelphia.

Among the invitees is undrafted Tennessee guard Chris Lofton, who recently revealed he had testicular cancer surgery in March 2007. Nuggets forward Nene missed much of last season due to testicular cancer surgery.

The summer roster includes guard Taurean Green and forward Bobby Jones, a pair of Denver players with nonguaranteed contracts who will try to get them guaranteed with a strong summer showing. The Nuggets must make a call on Green by Aug. 1 and on Jones by Aug. 15 or else their minimum deals become guaranteed.

Also on hand will be swingman Sonny Weems, drafted by Chicago in the second round last week and traded to the Nuggets. Weems’ agent, Roger Montgomery, said a contract for Weems for next season won’t be discussed until after the summer league, which concludes for the Nuggets on July 19.rockymountainnews (http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jul/03/nuggets-announce-summer-league-roster/)

i hope theres a roster spot for lofton.

There may well be. We're gonna have to pack the bench with a bunch of summer leaguer-type scrubs no matter what just to get the roster up to the minimum number of 13 players.

Hopefully Karl evaluates his younger athletes' performances this summer to use them to our advantage this season.

We need to take a load off all of the older players' legs and lungs.

it is now for sure are FO sucks after watching the 2 summer games that mario chalmers has been in, i think it is safe to say we screwed up. the first game, he had rose on lock down and the second game vs the nets he was a beast in the fourth quarter to guarantee the heat a win.

Top performers for Denver against Toronto:

Elton Brown got his second consecutive double double w/ 10 rebounds (3 off) and 11 points on 4-9 shooting. Unfortunately, he also had 7 personal fouls.

Taurean Green bounced back from his horrible 1-9 shooting performance to make a PERFECT 3-3 from the field (2-2 from the arc), with 3 rebounds, 4 assists (2 tos), and 9-12 FT shooting. I was not aware that Green was able to get to the line. (Who knows if he can in the NBA or not, but it's a good sign that the potential for that dimension to his game exists). He led the Nuggets in scoring w/ 17 points.

Another great game from D. Jones, 2nd in scoring w/ 16.

Bobby Jones had a decent game, 10 points but 6 pfs.

The big disappointment this time was Sonny Weems, who shot just 1-7 in 16 minutes.

Nuggets Use Balanced Attack to Tame Raptors

Denver 90, Toronto 79

LAS VEGAS, July 14 – Six double-digit scorers for the Denver Nuggets proved to be too much for the Toronto Raptors in the second game of day four of the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS inside UNLV's COX Pavilion.

Denver's charge was led by Taurean Green's17 points and Dahntay Jones' 16.

"It went pretty well today, we won," said Denver Nugget Bobby Jones. "It was really competitive out there, and there is a lot of talent out here, guys are playing so hard because they're trying to make rosters. We were happy to come away with a win."

Right from the opening tip the Nuggets jumped on the Raptors leading 11-2 at the first timeout. They extended that lead in the following minutes to make the score 28-14 at the period buzzer.

The duo of Joey Graham and John Lucas combined for 14 of the Raptors 20 points in the second quarter, that helped Toronto cut their deficit from as much as 15 down to five at the half; 39-34.

The second half saw the Nuggets consistently hold on to their five point lead or so, until 8:27 left in the fourth quarter when the Raptors tied the game at 67. Denver responded with a 17-5 run to secure their 11 point win.

Toronto was led by their three-year pro Joey Graham's 16 points.

Notes: Toronto faces off against Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon, while Denver plays in the final game on Thursday night against Milwaukee. nba.com (http://www.nba.com/summerleague2008/games/boxscore.jsp?gameId=1520800014)

MAN HELL YEAH! GOOD **** TAUREAN.

I was waiting for this young man to shine! The dude was a BEAST back with Florida man!

I'm glad to see Chris Lofton get some PT.

Damn Sonny really didn't (have to) bring it tonight... OH WELL, WE STILL WON... Our summer league teams are dropping 90+ points on the other squads and winning by a great amount?

KARL. CHOOSE WISELY. THAT'S ALL I'M GOING TO LEAVE YOU WITH.

Nuggets baby! :D

After 4 games of summer league play, with only one remaining, Dahntay Jones and Elton Brown have emerged as the clear top and 2nd top performers on this team, respectively. No other players even come close.

Lines from the last game:

min fgm-a 3pm-a ftm-a off def tot ast pf st to bs pts
D.Jones 25:02 6-8 0-0 17-19 1 3 4 0 1 1 3 0 29
E.Brown 26:40 9-14 0-0 3-3 9 3 12 0 5 0 3 0 21
S.Weems 31:34 5-15 1-3 5-8 1 3 4 0 2 0 4 0 16
K.Langford 23:37 3-5 1-1 5-7 0 2 2 3 4 0 2 1 12
C.Sumpter 12:15 4-5 0-0 1-2 0 0 0 0 3 1 3 0 9

Nuggets top performers over 4 games:

Dahntay Jones: In 25.8 min., 21.5 pts on .556 shooting, 2.5 rbs, .5 ast, 1.75 to

Elton Brown: In 24.3 min., 13.3 pts on .583 shooting, 10.3 rbs (5.3 Off.!), 2.5 to, 4 pf

Looks like Jones needs to work on ball sharing and reducing turnovers, and Brown needs to work on fouling less, but if these SL games are used for FO decisions, I wouldn't be surprised if both Green and Bobby are waived and these guys take their spots on the roster.

The 2008-09 Denver Nuggets?

SUMMER LEAGUE: The Nuggets went 4-1 in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, with guard Dahntay Jones averaging 18.4 points and forward Elton Brown 13.4 points and 10 rebounds. Swingmen Bobby Jones and Sonny Weems, a rookie, averaged 10 and 9.2 points, respectively. Point guard Taurean Green, whose contract is only guaranteed if not waived by Aug. 1, showed little, averaging 6.5 points and 1.6 assists while shooting 23.3 percent.rockymountainnews (http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jul/20/melo-has-gold-on-his-mind/)

And that's that. Summer League's over, thread unstuck.
