I smile when I hear it! Beat LA is an homage, created by others losing to us! The entire country, if not the world, is jealous of us here. Be happy! :):)

What's really sad is that tomahawk chop in ATL.:clap::clap:

That has to be the most ANNOYING chant in the world. I remember how much I hated back when we used to play ATL a lot because of the old divisions.

On other chants news, there's a rumor that the Giants are gonna adopt Village People's "Macho Man" as their official rally song.

I think "Beat LA" actually started at a Celtics/Sixers playoff game. When the home team realized they were going to lose.

it flows... so it's easy for most teams to chant it constantly. it's not like chanting "beat SF" sounds good. and it did start in the NBA (read below), unlike in candlestick park... why does this kid keep coming into our forum?

For most fans, the chant is reminiscent of the playoff games in the old Boston Garden in the 1980s, when Magic Johnson squared off against Larry Bird and the Celtics and Lakers dominated the NBA.

But that's not when the chant took off in Boston. It actually started as a chant supporting the Philadelphia 76ers.

With 26 seconds to go in Game 7 of the 1982 Eastern Conference finals at the old Garden and the Sixers pulling away from the soon-to-be ex-champs, the crowd began to chant the now-famous phrase. Philadelphia, after all, would be facing the hated Lakers in the NBA Finals.

That was the pinnacle of the year for the giants.......they came in second to the Dodgers who then won the World Series. But then you know that, along with the pain of never winning one. Our little wimpy *** brothers beat the crap out of you the last time you got there.

"BEAT LA" was the headline of the San Francisco Chronicle the day after the inscident between Juan Marical and the dodgers catcher (cant think of his name right now) in August 22, 1965. You do the math. Unless you want to rework how math works, the Giants started it nearly 20 years before the Celtics did.

As a matter of fact.... San Fran IS one of the cities I'm talking about.
I was born and raised in LA.... and moved around a lot within LA during my lifetime. And here are a few facts that make your last statement both asinine and ********....

1) LA is absolutly GARGANTUAN! And for the most part.... Los Angeles is a very safe place to live. True we have our "drugies" and gangmembers.... but those cities represent a small fraction of the map of LA.

2) Disneyland and the Angels are NOT in LA! They are in Anaheim, which is in Orange County and not even a part of Los Angeles County AT ALL! They are as much a part of LA as San Diego and San Francisco are (thankfully not at all)

3) I've been to San Fran about 10-15 times in my live for various business trips and let me tell you something about SF...... Those people hate LA for the dumbest reasons!
I don't even think they HAVE a lagitimate reason???!

If San Francisco hates LA so bad then don't turn on the TV or go to a movie..... cuz 95% of entertainment is made by the talent and beautiful people that call Los Angeles home!
Oh.... the other 5% is Bravo, Lifetime, the Oxygen network and Gay porn.... THAT all comes from San Fagsisco! (Yeah I said it!)

does anyone else find the entire thread ironic?

first of all, the chant of "beat LA" is obviously stemming from a deep rooted inferiority complex, and the man insisting on the origin of the phrase is none other than "cain=future" which the name sums it all up, they never won it in SF and continue to suck without barriods, so judging from cain's current performance, it is highly unlikely that SF has any success in near future.

secondly, how does anyone residing in SF talk out LA's drug problems?
when I lived in SF, kids smoked weed right on N-judah train in plain site! cops didn't care for crackheads on market street, and I saw the same hooker getting high on irving street with cops on bicycles a block away in a donut shop ( I guess since they were on bicycles, they had to eat in ) and it used to amaze me the first year how prevalent it was and how "in your face" drug scene was. I just don't see the same level of normalized drug culture anywhere but in SF.

Weed dosnt count as drugs. SF is very liberal about a lot of stuff, including weed, and other stuff including who people do the nasty with. When I say drugs I mean stuff like crack and heroin.

When a good majority of that $$$ is on the DL it's hard to see what this team can really be. I'm the first to admit we've made some horrendous free agent moves over the years but I still think we win this division and if we add CC we can go all the way.

It wasn't meant to be funny. The Padres have zero championships, and have no room to talk. Everyone else who chants it has won something. (Giants, Celtics, D-Backs)
And "We-wish-we-were-L.A" isn't meant to be funny either. We have had more success than anybody who chans it, and behind their chant, they are really jeolous.

So BlueZoo. STFU, PLease. And try not to bash people in your own forum.

You know that 3% is a lot when the percentages compared are so low, right... If we were comparing 54% to 57%, then it might be no difference, but from 7% to 10%, that means a lot...

In other words, SF's gay population rate is 43% more than LA's... THAT'S A LOT!!!

Not sure where you're getting your stats, but:

San Francisco, estimates from Nov. 2006, has 15.4% of their population (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003432940_gays16m.html) as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual.

LA has an estimated population of 5.6% (PDF Link (http://www.law.ucla.edu/williamsinstitute/publications/SameSexCouplesandGLBpopACS.pdf) from UCLA)

OF COURSE LA HAS MORE GAY PEOPLE... it's 10 times the population... that's why you cant compare the amounts but the percentages..

Do you understand how to do math?

dude, I'm an engineer, I know numbers... but here's a quick explanation...

due to the huge difference in the base numbers, you can compare those, but you can compare the percentages... so to establish the relationship "X compared to Y", this being SF compared to LA, you simply divide X/Y.

That will give you a number, in this case 275, but that means that SF gay population is 275% compared to the 100% of LA's gay population, so you substract the 100% base of LA and you end up with SF gay population being 175% MORE than LA's...

4everblue

I think that's what he used.

You can use %2 - %1 is you want to compare percent vs percent, but not if you want to create a relation between the percentages. To create the relation, you need to go %2/%1.

That's why I said before that 3% is a lot when you are comparing low base numbers... is not the same to say 10% vs 7% than 54% vs 51%...

Or think about it as 3% vs 0%... that could be the Reds odds to win the WS vs the Giants odds... GET IT???

I was up in SF for the holiday weekend and caught the Dodgers Saturday win. The entire weekend I wore my Dodgers cap and everyplace I went there I got some sort of "LA Sucks" comment.

I had fun with it, but I am still hurting from the Lakers loss. At some point the only way to end this LA persecution is for the Dodgers to finally win a World Series, for the Lakers to win a championship and rule the NBA again, and for a real NFL football team to return to the LA. Until that happens, LA will be an easy city to make fun of and people will always think of us as brainless Baywatchers here.

Chants are chants but if u ask me,f--k the giants sounds alot better than beat L.A... I was at one of this weekends game, what does piss me off is that I had to drink my delicious beer out of a plastic cup with "beat la" on it, I've been living in northen Cali for 2 years now and I have gone to a good amount of games mostly vs my hometown dodgers( go dodgers 1/2 game back suckas) and even in games against other teams they have these freken cups that read "beat la".. So my point being is how sad is that?. Why not put "beat 3rd place".. Or "win a championship" honestly the dodger giant rivalry is huge but beating LA shouldnt drive a team or fans... Go dodgers!

Do the Giants really use "Beat LA" cups at games against other teams? That is hillarious. The SF Giants will never win crap, because they don't care. All they want to do is beat the Dodgers. They could go 18-144 for the season, but if all 18 wins were against the Dodgers, there would probably be a parade in SF. I think if the Dodger franchise ever ended, the Giant franchise would spontaneously disappear as being a metaphysical impossibility.

Any chant that validates and revolves around your oponent is weak. To all the "Beat LA" chanters, I say bring your weak **** on. It all revolves around us. We win. We lose. And the rest of you are just along for the ride.

Me and the dodger fans have grown to love each other . Seriously, I have no problem with them, a couple even gave me a good laugh. Is it a problem im posting in here?

The way you're posting it just seems like senseless arguing and you're getting frustrated. Of course no one ever wins in a Dodger/Giant debate, it just depends on how many are on each side. In this case, you're outnumbered. But if you're enjoying yourself...

I disagree on that one, but again, discussing it would only end up in me winning the debate, so...

And we love you too

I would like to invite you out to Vegas. We can catch a 51's game and then I can show you a nice section of desert about 50 miles north of here. Wear your favorite gnat jersey, because that will make the whole thing extra special. And don't worry, I'll drive. :D

Come on what? You think the Giants shouldnt count the NY titles because we chant "Beat LA".

I'm not cancelling out NY championships, but when you are chanting the city, you are chanting about a city that has 5 more championships than yours.

CAIN=FUTURE is starting to show up in Dodger threads more than anyone else on here. What is the over/under on when he gives in and becomes a fan of the Blue?

You havent heard? Ned Coletti and Stan Conte are still loyal to the Giants and thats the reason for the bad signings and injuries.

Wouldn't it be something if that was true, and they both went to jail for 15 years? That would be sweet.
