Hornets All-Star point guard Chris Paul agreed to a three-year contract extension with a player option for a fourth year, his agent Lance Young said Thursday.

The deal is estimated at $68 million, which will push Paul's yearly salary starting in 2009-10 to more than $20 million per season. Under NBA rules, Paul cannot sign the deal until July 9.

"The deal is done,'' said Young, who declined to go into more specifics regarding the deal.

This is a pretty big penny. He deserves it though, but damn, 22+ million per year?

Sounds like his commitment to staying in NO is not that solid - he's keeping his options open.

u guys r smoking?
Its a 4 yr deal with a player option for the 4th year. And he will make as much as $68 Million so its 68/4 which is 17 Million for each year.

Yeah. He's right. There is a huge difference between 3 years 68 million and 4 years 68 million. 22+ million a year is a lot more than 17 a year. A three year, 68 million dollar contract would have been absolutely ridiculous.

He had 1 great year with that high powered offense and he gets this? I know this wont be popular but there is no way he deserves this much... He is good but he has a lot of very good shooters and players around him that are making him a lot better. 17 mill a year with a player option for the 4th year is beyond sad and is ridiculous. Sorry all you cp3 fans but he is not worth it... Just not proven enough to get a contract like this. He is a great basketball player but damn.

He has West and Peja, thats pretty much it offensively, every1 else on the team are just average role players

NO has a lock on a future HOF PG. CP3 will be around for years to come. He will probably win the MVP at least twice. He is the leagues future PG. NO was smart to Sign him to a 3(Year 4 Player Option)/$68 Million extension. Well worth it IMO. Look at what the man did!

This man deserved it. Finishing 2nd in MVP in only his 3rd season i think. That's pretty impressive.

Edit.

That's money well spent. He's going to be/already is the best point guard in the league.
