WOW!!! Didn't see that coming. Now let's see if Brand is true to his word and takes less money or goes for the dollar signs.

Go Dodgers!

According to a league source, the Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million.
The Warriors can now offer Brand more money than the Clippers can, but we'd be surprised if Brand goes anywhere. Part of the reason that Baron Davis left the Warriors was supposedly so that he could go play with Brand in L.A. It would be surprising to see Brand go to Golden State, but anything is possible considering they can pay him close to $20 million more than the Clippers.

Part of me likes this just because it's funny and a huge slap to Baron, but I also really want to see what Wright can do with more minutes. Do we really want to give all that money to Brand anyway? He just had a serious injury as well. They'd complement each other nicely though.

They are just starting negotiations with Monta and Biedrins?

Fion
07-02-2008, 02:42 PM
brand may have had a serious injury, but he returned to playing in the regular season last year and showed he was still good.

Webelievegs!
07-02-2008, 02:45 PM
We don't need Brand. Developing our rookies is our best bet. I would rather be patient and focus on our future rather than spend money on a player who has just come off an injury. The Warrior's office just seems a little too desperate. They've made two big offers within the past 24 hours. Let's just take a little bit more time to get over the B-Diddy slap.

If we sign Brand we can then trade wright and harrington for a proven pg and have monta stay at sg, where he belongs. Beidrins and Brand would make a great front court.

wright/harrington for chauncey

or

wright/harrington for felton and a 1st

Your right Brand opted out and said he wouldn't have any problem of taking less money to play for the Clippers because they want to win now. 6 years for 81 million dollars I believe the Clippers offer him

no clippers offer is way les.s thats more liek wariros offer. the warriors offer was in 80-90 mill range. they said we can offe about 23 million more than the clippers

Trust me Brand will not leave, the only reason he opted out was so he could take a pay cut so we could get B.D. If he wanted alot of money he would have stayed and got 17 mill next year but he wanted us to get B.D.

How about since Baron only "Verbally agreed" to be with the Clippers. We switch it up on them, Baron goes back on his word. And we sign Brand Baron and Ellis to cheaper contracts!!! Win the West win the Finals!!!!!!(Sarcasim)

Don't get excited. This is the life of a warriors fan. They do this shhhh on purpose. They love to see us suffer. Brands would be kinda old when his contract expires. i'd rather spend this kind of money on somebody younger.

07-02-2008, 05:32 PM
How about the Warriors sign...Monta Ellis. To a big fat extension. Never worry about this **** happening to us again with aMontazing. We just lost the best player on our team. Brand wouldn't make a difference. Now Baron and Brand with Monta and Jackson. That's another story. But the Clippers lucked out. And now we need to start rebuilding again. We need to trade Jackson for what ever he is worth. We need to give Monta and Beidrins contract exstensions. Build up cap room. And play for the future. Our starting 5 isn't going to make any noise what so ever in the West. I just wish that this wasn't true or Baron could go back on his word and sign with us instead. Thanks Baron for Royaly f*cking the Warriors!

It's 50/50 if Brand comes. I'm holding out hope. If he does come, I'd try and trade for Jamal Crawford.

I dont see why everyone is so upset. Sure Baron was great when he was here and he carried the Warriors the last couple years. But with him leaving, we are now $40 million under the cap. Figure we are going to use $20-$25 mill, to sign Monta, Biedrins, and Bukie. That still leaves us with $15-20 mill to sign other players. Plus if we are able to trade Harrington for Felton or another PG we are still in pretty good shape here I think

Tmac416
07-02-2008, 05:43 PM
felton is not a starting pg in this league

ThE ShOw
07-02-2008, 05:46 PM
He would be leaving over 30 million on the table if he didn't come. The W's have an offer for 5 years around $100 million and the Clips offer is 5 years about 70 million. The Clippers do not have his Bird rights becaused they renounced Eltons and Coreys Bird rights when they signed B diddy. The Clips can't offer the 6th year and don't have more Cap space than the W's. I don't think he can walk away from $30 million.

(07-01) 22:32 PDT --The Baron Davis era in Oakland is over.

Less than 24 hours after Davis shocked the Warriors by walking away from the final year and $17.8 million left on his contract, the franchise guard delivered a second strike Tuesday afternoon.

Davis agreed in principle with the Clippers on a five-year contract worth about $65 million, according to multiple league sources. The deal cannot be finalized until July 9.

Davis' sudden departure leaves the Warriors without any compensation for the two-time All-Star, although Golden State now becomes a major player in free agency.

If we were to land Brand, I think we would would prolly be a better team than last year, we would also have enough fire power where we can go out and get a point to run the floor (not neccesarily a scorer) but a distributer. exciting.

I like a big three of Ellis, Jackson, and Brand. If Wright, Randolph, Buike and Biedrins all continue to develop, we could be in good shape. I hate the thought of waiting until Monday to know who's gonna be on our team :(

PS: Is it just me, or is there more forum activity right now than at any point over the last season?

PPS: Can we get a new "Warriors" avatar? Looking at the Baron one is making me sick.

i like the idea of signing brand, but wouldent you like to just sign josh smith to the Mid level exception and save around 8-10 million?
smiths numbers are close to brands (17 ppg, 8 rpg, 2.5 blocks per, compared to 20/10/2) and he is still developing at 22 years old, and could be better then brand in a few seasons.
we could then instead of signing brand to a max contract we could then sign two or three more players around 5-10 million a piece.

OneOpportunity
07-02-2008, 10:35 PM
problem is though that the hawks can match any offer we give Smith. The only way we get him is if we overpay (probably by a lot) so much that the Hawks wont match (they have plenty of cap room)

IamTurboman
07-02-2008, 10:42 PM
Smith is in the same situation with the hawks that Andris and Monta are here. They are restricted and any offer is probably going to be matched.

If you guys don't get Brand, what do you think the chances are that GSW just goes into complete cap-space clearing rebuilding, kinda like what NJ is trying to do? And if so, I read on HoopsHype that there may be something in the works via sign and trade between GSW and Miami involving Ellis and Marion...Any thoughts on that?

Awesome awesome awesome. I've been saying that we should go for Brand the second that Baron became linked to the Clippers. Not only does that prevent them leapfrogging us in the standings, but we get the dominant big man we've been looking for, forever! There's an opening, and we've got to go for it.

If the warriors are able to sign Elton Brand, which the chances are still slim but he is spending the weekend figuring out if he wants to become a warrior.

I think in order to get brand up to the East bay we need to put someone else around him.

What about Harrington and a first rounder for Billups. The money fits and the pistons get a scorer whose contract expires just in time for the big free agent frenzy of Lebron bosh and wade, among others. They also get a first round pick that does not hurt an older team.

A starting Lineup of:

Billups
Ellis
Jackson
Brand
biendrins

That looks damn good to me, especially with a bench of Bellineli, buike, Wright, Randolph, and Hendrix.

tru_warrior
07-03-2008, 08:35 PM
I kinda like that idea, but...

1) I'm reluctant to give up a first round for next season

2) It's gonna take more than TMNT and a first rounder to get Billups IMO...but don't quote me on that.

I do like that lineup though.
