HOUSTON -- Free agent guard Gerald Green has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Green, a first round pick of the Boston Celtics in 2005, was part of the trade that sent Kevin Garnett from Minnesota to Boston. The Timberwolves traded Green to Houston last season. He played in one game for his home town team before being released.

Green was the NBA Slam-Dunk Champion at the 2007 All-Star Game.

"We have a verbal agreement with Dallas on a one year contract," said Colin Bryant, Green's agent in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "We talked to a number of teams and there is more money out there, but this is the best situation for Gerald at this point in his career."

Green went from high school to the NBA. He played at Gulf Shores Academy in Houston.

Bryant believes the Mavericks coaching staff can help Green build a solid foundation.

"With (Head) Coach (Rick) Carlisle and Mario Elie, they will be vital to Gerald's development," Bryant said. "Playing for the Mavericks will help elevate his game."

Elie is a Mavericks assistant coach.

In three years in the NBA Green has averaged 8.1 points and 1.8 rebounds a game.

Now where's that kid that's all over Gerald Green? I bet he's just bought season tickets for the Mavs

Yes! these are the kinds of guys they need around Jason Kidd...If Avery was here this would have never happened Avery would have just sign some more old guys who can't play ball anymore.

I think BB41 was being sarcastic..

If Green is in the right environment, I think he could be a good player. He could really thrive possibly with Kidd.

Green should get some PT. Im sure Kidd can get him some easy dunks.

He is an amazing talent. He just lacks a good work ethic and desire to be a great NBA player. If he really cared more about the NBA and focused his life around being the best player he could be, then he probably would be doing a lot better than he is right now.

big whoop. hes athletic, but its not like carlisle will have a long leash with this guy. He's lazy and doesn't try hard enough to stick. This is a no risk move by the mavs. If they can get some production of out him, cool, if not, very small investment

Did he even go to college? If not, thats why he isn't up to his potential.

nup he didnt, commited too one of them, then was projected high in the mock draft, then opted too hire a manager then feel to 18 in the draft, with the celtics.

great pick up. if hes in the right spot he can be great. a lot of players don't do good until they find the right spot. look at billups, ben wallace etc. i hope he gets minutes but looking at the mavs team he should.

He's due for a breakout man. He has loads of potential, just doesn't do anything with it. He doesn't have the heart, but maybe that will come playing alongside a great PG and PF - with a good coach. Either he will break out, or continue to be useless - the Mavs have nothing to lose, and plenty to gain.

I personally don't like Green because of his attitude, but I wouldn't mind him living up to some of his potential - because as a basketball fan, I hate to see it go to waste.

I don't think the Mavs can just "dunk" their way to a championship...

Good luck. This guy's been given too many chances. He couldn't crack it, and I don't think he will.

this reminds me of jr smith. loads of potential that got traded a couple times and never really panned out until he got to denver. but still not that great.

green can dunk but not in games... wen he gets challenged he shys away and tries to do these circus layups and misses most of the time... hes not a good player...

It's not the worst signing in the world-the Mavs really need some younger players. While everyone knows that Green isn't the big answer, at least he will be able to contribute somewhat(I hope)-more so than Stackhouse or Jones did this past season.

willl he be the back up gaurd? his not gread i admit that but he can knock down open threes, pull up and drive his way too the hoop, hopefully someone on the mavs will teach him its 4 other people on the team, and also teach him too play D.

Green, has no defensive aptitude, couldn't guard his way in or out of any situation. He has virtually no jump shot. He's a slasher, and whoopie he can dunk. He's a one time Dunk champ schlub who is nothing. If you cannot stay on the Timberwolves roster, YOU SUCK.

Except JR Smith can hit a Free throw and or a three pointer. Green cannot do anything but dunk. He's a bust.

he was too young and immature...but the thing is people talk about his sweet jump shot and athleticism...
