The Celtics have made contract offers to two forwards: Their own free agent, James Posey, and Clippers free agent Corey Maggette, sources told the Boston Globe. The most the Celtics could offer is the mid-level exception (about $5.8 million), and it's doubtful that they could sign both players. The terms of the offers were not disclosed.

Posey averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 2007-08 and was a NBA Sixth Man of the Year candidate in his first season with Boston. The two-time NBA champion was a strong leader for the Celtics and opted out of the second year of a two-year deal on Monday to become an unrestricted free agent. Maggette averaged 22.1 points and 5.6 rebounds last season for the Clippers and played for Celtics coach Doc Rivers in Orlando during the 1999-2000 season.

I doubt Maggette would go to Boston for a MLE.
That's just not going to happen.

You never know what people will sacrifice to win a title.

Example: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce. They all changed there whole way of playing and KG and Ray took less money to come here.

Maggette is going to want more money than that. And he would want to start, and he's not going to with Paul Pierce blocking him at SF.

I hope Maggette likes winning. That would just be unfair for the Celtics to sign him.

False. Garnet and Allen still make the same amount of money as a Celtic. Their contracts did not change, their style of play did.

What they sacrificed was individual scoring and what not to get a title.

Where would Maggette play? I doubt he's willing to come off the bench, even for the Celtics.

Maggette won't go to Boston to be the 6th man off the bench. Although he would have a pretty good shot at winning the 6th man award. Maybe Boston could go small and have Garnett play center, and Pierce or Maggette at PF down the stretch of games.

Where would Maggette be in the rotation? He would have to come off the bench because of Ray-Ray and Pierce.

Maggette and Posey should not be getting offers for the same amount of money. Posey is a solid role player, but

Maggette>>>>>>>>Posey

i like wat i hear.

either of them makes a great 6th man.

either would be great to have. posey for obvious reasons and maggete for some great scoring off the bench.

Does Maggette plan on coming off the bench again?

i think this would be huge. i think he would play a lot actually, because i think ray ray will need more rest this year and he could get a lot of ray's minutes during the season. he could also take over when ray retires if he would stay a couple years. he could give pierce a lot of rest too. this could be really big.

This is debatable, but if u can sign Maggette for the MLE you take him instead of Posey.

I hope he takes the MLE and goes to Orlando, where he can get the starting spot.

Lets face it, Boston WILL be title contenders next year....The big three are just gonna play like old men after one year... Celtics defense will still be one of the best in the league, and although im sad to know theres a possibility posey can leave...., if maggette took his spot i believe it might be an upgrade.. posey plays better Def but not LEVELS better where as c.m is much better on the offensive end. Huge signing if we get either tho. 6th man is Important for us

If I were the Clippers Id sign and trade Maggette for Posey

Boston would be overdoing it by adding Maggs.

Maggette in CELTIC GREEN would own....i hope posey stays... hes ONE of the reasons we'll be raising a 17th banner. if we lose posey and replace em with maggette ill be happy.. if get just posey im happy...We dont get either....:(

Maggette should and will be a starter on some team. He's also atleast worth 8 a year.

Celtics fans must have their heads still in the clouds if they think Corey would want to ruin his career by sitting on the bench for lesser money.

Good point. We'll just have to wait and see.

Maggette though, is very different from Posey. He's more of a scorer who needs PT to be effective, where as Posey is a role player who can make an instant effect on the field with his D and 3pt shooting.
