All of this is based almost completely on my own understanding of things, which could be wrong (thus the question marks). So you've been warned. :smoking: But I try to stay on top of all these details, so I'm pretty sure my little breakdown here is accurate. However, please correct me if I'm mistaken about any of it.

Monday, June 30th was the deadline for the Nuggets to extend a qualifying offer to Kuba - I've been scouring the internet, and I can't find any reports to confirm or deny this, but I believe that Denver did NOT make the offer, and so Diawara has officially become an unrestricted free agent. I assume they intend to let him walk away.

The only confirmation I can find is this, at espn (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=2008freeagents):

Denver Nuggets

Restricted: J.R. Smith

Unrestricted: Anthony Carter, Yakhouba Diawara, Eduardo Najera

Limited Salary Protection: Bobby Jones (no salary protection if waived on or before 8/15/08, therafter full), Taurean Green (no salary protection if waived on or before 8/1/08, thereafter full)

I believe they formerly had him listed as restricted.

Also, I think the deadline was the same for negotiating an extension for Iverson. I think after he chose to exercise his player option there was something like a one week grace period in which the Nuggets and AI could have negotiated a contract extension. No news of this, either, so I assume that the final, single year of his contract has been cemented in place.

So our offseason picture just got a little bit clearer today.

Hopefully we can find a new talented player to delegate to the bench in your place.

Confirmed (http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_9748315):

The Nuggets did not make a qualifying offer to guard Yakhouba Diawara, and so the defensive-minded reserve will become an unrestricted free agent today.

"He's open, looking for a job," Diawara's agent Bouna Ndiaye said.

Best of luck to Kuba in his job hunting. I'm not too upset that he is seemingly gone. Najera is a good energy guy, but I saw he doesn't want to take a pay cut, so he'll probably be gone as well. I will miss him because of the energy and effort he brought night in and night out.
As for AC, I've always been told that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything, so I'll leave what I have to say as goodbye.

this is just sad. what a waste, he will find another team I am pretty confident in that, and I hope that team will give him a chance to play. "concentrating on defense" my ***, you let your best and cheap defender go. what intelligent coaching staff and organization we have.
