That is right. I just got a text from ESPN stating that that is the offer that is on the table for Gilbert. IMO I believe that Gilbert will be back in Washington. That is alot of money for Arenas!! Thoughts?

If they give him 6 year, 124......will there be enough money to resign Jamison?

Arenas is overrated. Sure he might sell a lot of tickets, but he's no leader.

He's one of 'those guys' who hogs the ball, disrupts the offense, and doesn't play defense.

Plus, he is a distraction off the court. Sure, he doesn't get in legal trouble, but he's just one of those goofballs that will never win.

Caron Butler, on the other hand...

I agree Gilbert does not deserve a 124 Mill/6 yr contract. Not worth it. He was out all of last year, and is very overrated. Not worth it for the Wizards. The must be desperate to keep him.

He scores at will. If the Wizards believe that is the best move for their future, who are we to say what is too much? A lot of money, that is true.

Thats some big time cash . . .For Lebron, Kobe, Howard . . .yes; for GA?
Man, Washington is really making a hugeass statement.

6 years at 100 million is a lot for Arenas, but I'd take it if I were him.

They r ********, he's not worth more than 15 mil a year especially since they dont even know if he'll ever be the same after that year long injury.

Well if Rashard Lewis can make what he's makin, then there is no reason why Arenas can't.

I think it's best if Wizards S&T him somewhere. They Wizards got #5 spot without Arenas and trading Arenas for a legit C or PG it would be good.

I don't know. Sometimes he's overrated, but then I remember he's a stone cold killer. Before last year, Gilbert was breakin backs NIGHTLY on the wood. Those last two years in Washington he was a KILLER. He jacked a lot of shots, but he sunk a lot of ships also. If he's healthy, pay the man.

Bingo... Do u guys remember what he said?? He said he would stay and play for a discount if they keep Jamison and Butler!!! They have a solid team... But That money could be spent in other needs.... Gilbert is not worth 6/100

Cali4rnia
06-30-2008, 02:59 PM
arenas is an okay player the most he deserves is 9 million a year... his shooting percentage is poor 42% over the career... he needs to take 20 to 25 shots to get his 20+ point.. VERY VERY VERY OVERRATED...

BlondeBomber41
06-30-2008, 03:00 PM
Not even close to worth all that, I would be scared to give him 12 million a year.

According to a league source, president Ernie Grunfeld plans on offering Arenas a lucrative long-term contract, one that could cover up to six years and could be worth more than $100 million. Arenas may ask for a max deal, which would be for six years and $124 million, and Grunfeld could hedge on th

^^It's from the Washington Post. I really don't think he is worth that much.

Even if he was completely healthy, can you win with Arenas? Didn't his team do better without him?

why do you guys care..let them screw over there organization :D..and yes "his" so called team did better without him..

ManRam
06-30-2008, 08:38 PM
I guess the organization is more committed to keeping a team together and retaining it's star than actually winning. Washington has never won with him, so why bring him back for so much money.

They will define the word "average" and "consistency" for a while, but will never be more than that.

The Washington Wizards got a jump on their offseason business.

Forward Antawn Jamison was kept off the free-agent market with a four-year extension worth $50 million. The deal comes before Jamison was to become an unrestricted free agent.

Jamison traveled from North Carolina to Washington on Monday to sign the deal.

"I just signed. We got it out of the way," Jamison told The Associated Press.

...

Securing Jamison's signature enables the Wizards to focus on re-signing Arenas, who has opted out of next season's $12.8 million salary to become a free agent despite the knee problems that have plagued him for more than a year.

Exactly what I was thinking. But there are a few true legit C's and PG's in the league, and I doubt that their teams would be willing to part with them.

But with or without him they ended up in the same result. Regular season wins don't matter if you lose in the playoffs.

the last two years shouldnt even count because gilbert was injured during them and caron was in 2007

but in 2005 when they were all healthy we beat the bulls 4-2 and gilbert even hit a game winning shot

Jamisons already signed, and I think Arenas is worth 80-90/6 years..

124.. Ya freakin right. Only players worth that IMO are Paul, Bryant, Wade, Howard, James IMO.

u know what forget it gilbert arenas is just gonna be a free agent the wizards dont have that much money they just gave jamison an extension so... gilbert i would want him to be a bobcat while elton brands gonna come to the bobcats imagine PG.Arenas SG.JRich SF.Gerald Wallace PF.Elton Brand C.Emeka Okafor. its so obvious elton brands coming to the bobcats u know so watch the bobcats they need a pf right now so elton brand will come watch!

They are giving him that contract because they believe that if they can get Arenas back, put him with Jamison and Butler, and mayb sign another big man or SF they have a shot at a championship...

Do0msday
06-30-2008, 11:08 PM
I think the Wizards are overpaying if they give Arenas anything even close to $100mil.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's a terrific player, but he's coming off major injuries & isn't even the best player at his position. Why should he be paid so much more $$ than people who play the position better than he does?

I think Washington was smart with extending Jamison though. It would have been ******** to let him hit the market. I think Jamison is more valuable to the team than Arenas at this point...

They should make sure to get a void clause just in case he decides to bring a gun in to the locker room. Id make sure to add get a voidable clause somewhere in that contract.
