An injury-depleted Cubs roster takes another hit this week when cleanup hitter Aramis Ramirez takes the next three games off to tend to family matters back home in the Dominican Republic.

Ramirez originally asked for four days off but was told he could take three. He is to rejoin the team Thursday for the finale of a four-game series in San Francisco.

Wow. I hope everything is okay for Rammy and his family. I'm officially worried though about this team losing to the giants in a 4 game series though.

what else could go wrong for the cubs? please i hope kerry wood stays off the dl. if that happenes then we are officially cursed.

They should give him as long as he needs if it is serious.

Boy we better get back on track quick.

If he's not physically injured, how "serious" it is - is a really thin line.

I hope everything is fine, but is DeRo going to step in at 3rd?

Hopefully Murton gets a couple shots in LF.

Everybody needs to calm down a bit. Yes they've had a bad couple weeks. Good teams go through bad stretches. Just like bad teams go through good stretches.

Family First. They should have given him 4 days off. It takes a day to travel and another day to come back and he will have only a day to attend family matters :pity:

We need Ramirez for the long stretch and now he needs to attend his family to stay focused for the remainder part of the season.

man, not a good time to lose him + he was slumping. Wish he wasn't playing his first days back, coming off a slump at STL. :(

Bad enough we lose our cleanup hitter for the next San Fran series. They have won their last 2 series, beating out 2 of 3 against the A's and 2 of 3 from the Indians.

They did score 11 funs yesterday. :speechless:

Cardinals have the Mets for 4 games and we have the Giants. Have to get a game or 2 back in this series. Cubs don't want to go into a series with the cardinals with 3 or less lead in the standings. Way to much can and has gone wrong lately to have that end with a trip to 2nd place.

****ing hell. As much as I understand it and dont blame Aramis in the least, what an awful time for something to happen for the Cubs. No Rammy, no Soriano = far weaker lineup. That means we're looking at DeRo at 3rd, Fonty/Cedeno at 2nd and Murton in LF (maybe Patterson again out of necessity). Or DeRo in LF, Cedeno at 3rd and Fonty at 2nd.....
Ugh.

wonder if this had anything to do with Aram's numbers this weekend? Not making excuses but was he there 100% mentally? It could not have helped.

I asked the same question. He has to do what he has to do, but if he was distracted, this will be a huge blessing for us when he gets back with a clear mind.

The Cubs will be fine ... they just need to get some guys back healthy, and start playing smart baseball again. They made a lot of bad baserunning mistakes this weekend, and need to tighten things up a bit.

The Sox are good ... they are going to make a lot of teams look silly, and this past weekend it was the Cubs' turn. Turnabout is fair play I guess. The Cubs smacked them two weekends ago.

Ramirez is struggling ... maybe a couple days away will do wonders for his game. Hopefully he'll return refreshed, and with a better approach at the plate.

It has to be serious, IMO, All-Star break looming and all. Prayers are with ARam and his family and a safe trip back.

I hope it has nothing to do with his recent birthday and all the talk in here about him being older/younger.

LOL...wtf are you talking about mortgage? We annihilated the NL West when we ran through the west earlier. And two, despite the fact that the Giants scored however many runs you did yesterday, nobody on your offense is worth even mentioning out of Molina and Rowand...

I will give you Lincecum, Cain, and Sanchez tho...-_-;

We miss Sanchez.

The key to this series and the whole trip imo is Game 1 v. Zito. A 4-3 road trip, considering all the variables not in play, would be a good trip. But, if we drop that game, we might be looking at Week 3 of bad baseball.

we have some pretty good players in AAA, and thankfully, not a single injury we've seen is serious, Soriano will be back within the next week or two, Z is coming friday, Edmonds will play through the pain, Theriot will be back in the swing in a few days, Fukudome is fine, just some soreness, we're doing fine, better this happen now and let some of our trade bait see some light of day now then in late july or august.

BRING UP VITTERS, the injury bug couldn't be more helpful. Now every team can see what our prospects can do. Hoff and Pie and Cedeno and Gallager and Marshall. Only problem is that they can't play well up here on the big club. If we have a good series against SF with young guys playing our chances of aquiring CC skyrocket.

I was gonna say I heard Ron say on the broadcast last night in the first inning that he was back home for the birth of his baby.

That being the case....3 games is enough. It might sound shallow, but I care much more about the Cubs than I do about Aramis' baby and how much time he gets to spend with it.

Boers and Bernstein brought up that maybe the reason it's being talked about sensitively is because he's having a son outside of marriage. It makes a lot of sense.
