According to mlbtraderumors.com

Free agent Freddy Garcia is looking to sign before the trade deadline. Garcia says he feels like he has a new shoulder.

He might be worth the gamble. I say offer him an incentive laden deal (perhaps even a minor league one with a promise of promotion on certain stips). He wants to play....It could be win/win.

We spend the money on riffraff constantly, why not spend it on a guy who has the following numbers...

2004 SEA 4 7 3.20 15 15 1 0 0 0 107.0 96 39 38 8 32 82
2004 CWS 9 4 4.46 16 16 0 0 0 0 103.0 96 53 51 14 32 102
2005 CWS 14 8 3.87 33 33 2 0 0 0 228.0 225 102 98 26 60 146
2006 CWS 17 9 4.53 33 33 1 0 0 0 216.1 228 116 109 32 48 135

He is only 32. This could be one of those signings that others are kicking themselves for not doing. I have always thought he was a good pitcher. There is no reason for a Boston or New York to grab him and him turn intoa decent number 3 for them.

If there was a gamble to take, it would be this one. He insists he's healthy, and though our pitching has been unbelievable lately, we can still use another arm. He could be another comback surprise.

I like him, but I am more worried about our offense. Our pitching has been great, and we are still losing.

Do we really need another startting pitcher???? I mean come on we have penny, lowe, bills, kuroda, stults, kershaw, park, and kuo who are all very capable starters. I think going after a pitcher and giving up any talent for that is unnecessary. Pitching is the last thing we need at the moment, Not to mention the starters we have in waiting in the minor leagues plus shchmidt if he ever gets healthy.

I am one of those that says you can NEVER have too much starting pitching... infact I would use him as a long reliever and make him earn his spot... because I have NO faith that Schmidt will come back....

I heard that Garcia lost several miles off his fastball, but that was just off some random posters, do I dunno how valid it is.

He used to be damn good back in the day, but who knows how much he has left now.

But what the hey, you can never have enough starting pitching.

Question: What about AJ Burnett?

He's supposedly on the trade block, has great stuff, and his value is probably pretty low.

He threw 7 innings of shutout ball yesterday with 11 K's against the Braves.

I'd try to get Garcia on the cheap. We see to be good at reclamation pitching projects. Its just the good ones coming in that theres a problem with.

Why? Just why? Please don't do that again.

Right now we should probably let other teams be taking the gambles on starting pitching. We have no place for him on this team as our pitching staff is crowded as is and still has two or even three more arms coming off the DL.

He might be back to form, but we don't need him so there's no point in taking the chance on someone who likely was effective because of "enhancers".

I'd take Freddie over Loazia anyday.
