Monday June 30, 10:10, RSN

Roy Halladay, RHP (8-6, 3.12) vs R.A. Dickey, RHP (2-3, 4.79)

Scouting Report:

Blue Jays: Halladay struggled against the Reds in his last start. The right-hander allowed five runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 inning for the no-decision. In the outing, Halladay walked a season-high four batters and tossed a season-high 121 pitches. He did strike out seven batters though, and has reached that total in three of his last four starts. In his career against Seattle, Halladay is 4-4 with a 3.00 ERA over 72 innings.

Mariners: The knuckleball specialist made his latest venture into the rotation a good one, tossing seven shutout innings against the Mets, winning his first big league game in a starting role in more than two seasons. His knuckler danced all night long, keeping the Mets befuddled from the get-go. He held the NL team to six hits. Dickey has pitched two scoreless innings in his career against the Blue Jays.

Tuesday July 1st, 10:10, RSN

Jesse Litsch, RHP (8-4, 3.82) vs Felix Hernandez, RHP (6-5, 2.83)

Scouting Report:

Blue Jays: Litsch provided a stellar performance against the Reds in his last start. The right-hander one-hit Cincinnati through the first 5 2/3 innings on his way to earning his eighth win of the season -- which tied him with Roy Halladay for the team lead. Litsch allowed one run on three hits over eight innings. He walked one and struck out six. The start was also a reversal of fortune for the pitcher, who had struggled over his previous four starts. Over that span, dating back to June 4, he was 0-3 with a 6.46 ERA. The righty had allowed a total of 17 earned runs in 23 2/3 innings during the stretch, with opponents hitting .330. Litsch was a totally different pitcher before that span, though, going 5-0 with a 1.96 ERA over seven games from late April to the end of May.

Mariners: A sprained left ankle forced Hernandez to be pushed back a few days, but he's expected to rejoin the rotation for this game. He was injured on a play at home plate against the Mets last Monday night, a game that featured his first -- and the Mariners' first -- home run by a pitcher, a grand slam, of all things. His hitting aside, Felix had his pitches working throughout, retiring the first nine batters before surrendering an infield single. He lowered his ERA to 2.83.

Wednesday July 2, 10:10, RSN

Dustin McGowan, RHP (6-6, 4.26) vs Jarrod Washburn, LHP (3-7, 5.23)

Scouting Report:

Blue Jays: McGowan took the loss against the Braves in his last start. He allowed four runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings. He walked three, struck out four and needed 108 pitches in the outing. Lifetime against the Mariners, in five games -- three of which were starts -- the right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA. He has not pitched well on the road this year, posting a 2-4 record over 10 starts, with a 6.19 ERA.

Mariners: Another solid outing finally paid off for the left-hander, who ended a seven-start winless streak in his last outing, beating the Padres in an Interleague game in San Diego. He surrendered two runs, the fifth time in his past eight starts that he allowed fewer than three runs. The only walk he allowed was an intentional pass to the last batter he faced in the eighth inning, his longest outing of the season

They need to sweep the Mariners and hope that the Sox or Rays sweep each other to gain any ground at all in the wild card chase. It looks like the Jays are gaining confidence and the bats are coming alive, so here's hoping for a sweep of Ichy and company.

This is the team to make a run IMO. The pitching is there if the bats can get going look out. In years past They haven't had a team quite like this one to put together a run but I think these guys can! I'm keeping the faith!!

This is strictly from perusing the scoreboard everyday, so I could be wrong, but I believe the M's are playing much better baseball then they had been earlier in the year. They're scoring some runs now, (in Petco against some solid arms last series) so this series could be tougher than we think. But besides game 2, the matchups are in the Jays favor, so hopefully they can take at least two here before a tough swing in Anaheim.

Knuckleballer on the mound for Seattle. Look for Cito to use his bench in the starting lineup. IIRC Historically he sit his starters so they don't mess up their swings vs knuckler.

agreed, especially if they add another talented piece - not sure where though. Sort of like the raptors, a team full of good players, need more stars\impact players to get the next level. (or some of our own stars shine brighter)

i think rance was wrong on the Wells out though. I think it was a damned if you do, damned if don't. With the ball direction, it was possible the SS could double him off - so with that in mind he has to rush back to 2nd ASAP.

However, the ball went over the SS head - sharply to the OF, a little unlucky.

IMO

I hated the loss as well. But I'm ok with it for now. Cito stuck with his guys and didn't over react. The jays (batters) have to learn its ok to lose a game and not get so tense.

I think jays had bad luck last night. They'll win tonight and win the series. The wining streak will come.

Cito needs a dependable RH arm out of the pen right now. Camp's a nice arm to have, but he's recently been pitching more to what we should have expected of him in the first place. Frasor continues to prove that he can't pitch in pressure situations. After sending Wolfe down, it's even more puzzling that League isn't getting any work, considering if he comes anywhere near his '06 form he would be just what the pen needs right now. Getting Accardo back and pitching well will give them a huge lift too.

Indeed which is why for the 2nd straight years nearly all his numbers are worse. I really think the Jays need a stronger #4 and #5 then McGowan and Burnett if they are going to be a playoff team. Their front 3 of Halladay, Marcum, and Litsch are great, but they need a stronger #4 and #5. Hopefully Burnett opts out and good idea to trade McGowan once they bring in some stronger people to fill the back of the rotation.
