Chris Paul anyone?
He's not that good of a defender, quite overrated. I don't think he should've made the all defensive team. He's above average though .

My top 5:

1. Kobe
2. Duncan
3. Garnett
4. Artest

All five can carry teams at the offensive end (at times) and lockdown/anchor their team's defenses.

Pierce has always been an underrated defender. It's just he's played on some horrible defensive teams.

ron artest was the first player that popped into my head when i read the title. unfortunately, he's a black hole on offense, once he gets the ball in the post, he's not giving it up.

Lebron CAN be on this list....he is a great defender for stretches....getting better at blocking shots on help defense and taking the other guys best scorer at the end of games....but he just doesn't bring it like he can....but one day....I think Lebron could be the first guy who pops in our head....

Kobe (stop hating)
KG
Duncan
Ron Artest
Tayshaun Prince
Sasha Vujacic(dont hate on him either)
Paul Pierce
Ak 47
Manu Ginobili
Derek Fisher
James Posey
Rasheed Wallace
but i dont know about ray allen and lebron not really a defending type of player they just like to make the d work, they dont work with d even if lebron gets blocks so does stromile swift and d wade not because they are good defenders just because they got hops and could get the block as well as dwight howard, look at bowen he dont get alot of blocks but is a premiere defender

I think in order to be in the list you need to be quite equal on both ends, not very dominate on offense, and just above average on defense or vice versa.

Josh Smith shouldn't be on the list. He has good stats but he isn't a great defender.
Didnt a group of you guys say this last time but never responded to my post. Without Josh Smith the Hawks are the worst defensive team in the league, Id say thats playing enough good defense.

Actually there is another player on the hawks that plays on both sides of the court. His name is Joe Johnson. Yes, his stats dont show it but he plays great on ball defense. I mean he shut down Ray Allen when we played the Celts. If you watch the hawks everygame you would be able to tell whoever JJ is guarding that player probably wont get more than 15 points, if he is a good player. If he is average he probably wont get more than ten. But yes JJ does have his off nights but anyways. Besides being a real big Homer and only talking about my Hawks. I think Kobe is the best defensive player in the league. Or he was last year. I still dont understand why KG one DPOY. He had some big blocks but besides that. What else.

He is not a good perimeter defender, just a person who steals the ball quite frequently.

I think Ray Allen is really underrated as a defender. For much of the finals, he was the primary defender on Kobe Bryant (Paul Pierce only guarded him during the fourth quarters) and did a very admirable job.

WAT THE ****

Yea! that's right I said Ray Allen....look at what he did to Sasha Vujacic in the Finals, Vujacic wasn't getting any of thoes wide open 3's he was use to getting when Allen was on him.

Leftcoast_yg
06-29-2008, 08:33 PM
yeah he scored 20 in one game, and let me guess your response, "ray allen wasn't playing him". ray allen just knows how to shoot and stay in fron of players not so much of pest on d he has quick feet thats why he's a guard doesn't really get too many fouls either because he doesn't get in players faces like that on d.

JJ is a great 2 way player but he doesnt impact his teams defense the way Josh Smith does, and thats a HELL to the NO on Kobe being the best defender in the league.

Without Josh Smith the Hawks have no one to protect the rim, JJ cant do that and neither can Horford.

Josh Smith LED the league in +/- defensive differential, well he came in 2nd to only Chuck Hayes (Another superb defender) and while Im not suggesting Josh Smith is the best defender in the league hes most definitely vital to the Hawks team defense, more important than anyone else in the league because they rely on him to cover up so much of the teams weaknesses.

Since when is Paul Pierce a great defender? You guys are insane. Outside of KG and Rajon Rondo and James Posey, the Celtics TEAM defense is what wins games. Anybody can send Kobe, Lebron or anyone into the teeth of that Defense and be considered doing a good job. Let's be real, folks.

Paul has never played defense except for this year. Even when the Celts went to the Eastern Conference Finals a few years back, he didn't play any defense.

??? A.I is a terrible defender, he just goes "all or nothing" for steals, and sometime's gets em, and lot's of times dont, just cause they fill up the stat sheet, [A.I,Josh Smith] does'nt mean they're good defenders.

Just because they fill up the stat sheet (Josh Smith) doesnt mean they arent great defenders.
