Bay is just a young'n but he's proven himself to be a solid hitter.

Bay's got 14 HR and 36 RBI's on .288 so far this season

Giambi has 17HR and 40 RBI's on .269...

You guys think Bay will go on to be consistent 30 - 40 homer guy like Giambi?

Who you think will have the better season this year?

Giambi. He's in a better line-up and the short porch in YS is just made for him. I think Bay will have a very, very nice year though.

Also right now Giambi's rate of production is higher than Bay's. His OBP and SLG% are both higher and he has over 20 points of OPS+ so far this season.

Giambi, because he's in a deeper lineup, will have more pitches thrown down the middle to him with people on base. Therefore, he'll get more hits. Plus he's in a contract year.

Giambi and it shouldn't be close, but 6 chicken heads voted otherwise it seems.

now that Bay is in Boston this comparison is interesting. Bay seems to be having the better season this year. Giambi's avg is in the pits but he's still geting ribbies and hittin dingers.

Are we just comparing just their hitting abilities or what?

Must be. I think basically everyone would rather have Bay on their team.

^^you really shoudlve redone the poll instead of just bumping it up...back in the fist half it was Giambi by a mile...now that Bay is a Red Sox he has been playing great baseball and Giambi is hitting like 200 right now so it would have to be Bay altho i could be wrong cause i havent looked at all their numbers

Hitting is the only thing it's based on. If it weren't, then it wouldn't even be close.

Canadians stick together. They would say Bay is better than Arod just because hes canadian. When it comes to baseball, there isnt much to be proud of with Canada.

Giambi:

.250/.377/.513
OPS+ 134
96 Hits
28 Homeruns

88 Strikeouts

Bay:

.288/.371/.515
OPS+ 131
147 Hits

Based on those stats, they're pretty even.

I think it's Bay by a good amount. They both have power, but Bay can still hit for a decent average. Also, he isn't slow as hell.

Looking at those, I'm taking Bay now. Funny how earlier in the year when Giambi was good, it was him. Now he's not so good, with Bay hitting far better, and it's him.

Though, Bay is in his first real funk with the Sox.
