top 5 IMO are:
1. Carl Crawford
2. Joey Gathright
3. Willy Taveras
4. Nyjer Morgan
5. Carlos Gomez
These are in no particular order either.

I'm a Red Sox fan but this is not a homer pick at all.

Jacoby Ellsbury- When this guy 1st came up from the minors last year I said to myself he can't be as fast as Julio Lugo and Coco Crisp. Then I seen him get walked and steal second base then third base like nothing. The catcher wasn't even close. I seen this guy score easily from first base so many times on hits that might not even get most guys to third base. He runs like a thoroughbred. It's scary how fast he really is. I also remember another play were the pitcher caught him leading off first base. The pitcher threw the ball to first to try and pick Ellsbury off and instead of diving back to the first base bag he broke for second when the pitcher threw to first. The first baseman caught the ball and threw it to second base real quick too and Jacoby Ellsbury was safe by a mile. He's the fastest player I've seen in the league since Ricky Henderson.

Eugenio Velez. Altough he isnt in the Majors the dude can flat out fly. To bad he cant not get picked of by a LHP to save his life.

Juan Pierre... imo.

muckdog
06-09-2008, 03:53 AM
Pat Burrell - hands down the guy can flat out fly.

On a more serious note - Bourn is right there. There's different kinds of fast - fast from the batters box to 1st? Fast from 1st to 3rd? Fast in stealing? Fast in tracking balls down in the outfield?

BrizzleBear
06-09-2008, 04:12 AM
Micheal Bourn, Carlos Gomez

I'm glad a few people said Pierre. His game is so disrespected that I figured people would just ignore that fact that he has sprinters speed. He is so fun to watch IMO. I love having on the Dodgers! How many people you ever hear say that about Pierre?

However I'm going all homer here. The most impressive runner in the league if not the fastest is Matt Kemp. I don't even really like Kemp but when he gets going he may be the fastest player in the league. He isn't fast 0-60, but he might have the fastest top speed in the league. I gaurantee he is the last player in the league a catcher would want to have a collison with.

They had an article in ESPN the magazine about Ichiro and timed his base running. It was under 4 seconds to first to base and around 13 seconds from Home to Home, that is effin FAST! My top two would be Reyes and Ichiro. Both of them can out run anyone listed and are freakin fast.

I read (when I was still in STL) that in ST they timed barton in a 40 and he ran like a 4.4. Thats fast like WR fast.

But thats irrelevant, the guy can fly. He's HHUUGGEE, but once he rounds first, he can completely fly.

Doesn't matter, It's clear that lefties have an advantage and Ichiro's swing gives him another step.
But we're not talking about going on a track and running, this is baseball and I've seen it so many times a bang bang play at first with a righty running that a leftie would have beat out.

Wrong Ellsbury and Coco both admitted Buchholz was faster then either one of them are. So now because your a pitcher you have to be an out of shape piece of ****? He was a short stop in high school you realize? Ellsbury may be the smartest runner in baseball and knows how to steal bases but I wouldn't say he is on the same level as someone like Bourn.

There's really no way of knowing who the fastest runner is. Supposedly Gomez beat Reyes in a race, but other than that it's hard to tell who would top who. If I had to guess, I would say Gomez. Reyes is still crazy fast, but I think he has lost some speed since he was 19. Then again, he has gained much more power.
