The Jays basically drafted a bunch of college seniors with th rest of their picks with a few high schoolers mixed in between. Draft certainly was not as interesting as last years.

Liebel sounds like the next Marcum. Hopefully Cooper is our 1st basemen of the future. I would have liked to see more pitchers drafted early but thats the way it goes.

A bit optimistic there, nothing wrong with that though...I just dont see 90% of the line-up hitting 20+ homers and their batting average hovering around .300.

you would think Snider will hit more HR than Cooper

This will make the Jays the best hitting team in history

Cooper by the sounds of it will hit more homers then Snider...they both kind of remind me of a Todd Helton type hitters. Obviously not that calibre, but similar.

Hopefully within 2 years. There's a chance we could see him at the end of this season. He should be a full time within 2 years barring injury or if the Jays make any significant trades.

Next September should be his ETA.....

Yeah, sometime next season he'll probably make his debut, I dont think he should really come up this year, I dont think he's ready yet. He just needs to show he can hit while keeping his K's down.

him not being a September call up next year would mean that he would have had a setback along the road to the majors. He hasnt had many if any thus far so i would really really doubt that. Assuming health wise he will be in AAA next year so i can definitely see him up in 09...

How do you know? Half that team is still in the low minors and we have no idea how those guys will turn out. We have some pretty decent prospects from the last few drafts...

I saw cooper's atributes 40 hr???? The guy's only 6 feet 175. hmmm.... but then again some guy named Bautista ( the guy with the wishbone stance and chases the high pitches) hit 40 as well :D

I have a strong feeling though that JP Arencibia and Travis Snider will be called up this year if not Next year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, If i remember correctly, the only major picks left unsigned were Liebel the college pitcher and Sobolewski the college third basemen. The plan was to lowball Liebel becaus he didn't have any leverage and if he didn't sign then who cares, we get compensation for it in next years draft. Sobo is the key guy from this years draft for the Jays. He's a potential top 10 pick next year so that tells you his upside. If the Jays simply offer him the slot there's a pretty good chance he goes back to school and it turns out to be a waste of a pick that we don't get compensation for. I really want this guy to sign, from what I've read about him, his potential is through the roof and teams passed on him because of signability.

Note-Sobo couldn't negotiate a contract with Toronto because when he was drafted the CWS was still going on so he couldn't sign even if he wanted to.

WTF??

how the hell would you know this would be a crappy team???

There is a good chance it might because to have all your minor leagues come up and be effective at eh same time is very very rare but how do u know that as a definitive answer??

SNider if all goes well will be called up hopefully September 09. But even that is pushing it.

As for Arencibia...he wont get a sniff till 10' barring major injuries to all the catchers above him. 2 of Diaz, Thigpen, and one of Zaun or Barajas will need ot be out significant time for Arencibia to get a chance next year. He just got promoted last week from A ball. He will finish 08 in AA and then depending on how he does the remaining 2 months he will either start in AA next year or start at AAA.

the likelihood of either them contributing to this team on a regualr basis prior to 10' is very very very low.

If Ryan Zimmerman can do it i believe Arencibia and Snider can too!

He better sign him, Sobo might be the best player we ended up drafting in that draft. You just can't let those guys get away. They still haven't signed Liebel have they? I say screw signing Liebel and give his slot to Sobo, Liebel is going to be a fourth starter at best and if we don't sign him we get compensation for that pick. Liebel also has zero leverage. Sign Sobo!

Sure. Snider isn't projected to be a big homerun hitter to begin with.

says who?

All the scouting reports I've read have him and Bruce as the 2 most likely prospects to hit 40 HR. I'm talking about this year's top prospects

You might be right, I'm just going on what I've read. These are all projections and we all know how those usually work out...Snider is barely 20 years old so I wouldn't consider it a stretch to see him hit 35-40 homers in 6 or 7 years. He was called the best pure hitter in his draft class, whether that means he'll hit 40 homers or not, He's an extremely impressive hitter with endless potential. The fact that he'll be in triple AAA probably before he's 21 is remarkable.

Rejoice Jays fans. Look who is playing 3B for Auburn.

Sobolewski baby

I'm ecstatic to see that the Jays have finally signed this guy. I believe he was a fourth round pick this year. The thing about this guy is that many people thought that the Jays were not going to be able to get him out of school because he is projected to be a first rounder next year and could possibly have top 10 potential.

I guess one of the things you got to give to JP is his ability to sign all his draft picks.

You should be happy that Liebel hasnt been signed. He was a complete waste of a pick. A senior in college who isn't projected to do much? No thanks, the guys ceiling doesn't sound very high IMO. Sounds like a complete waste of a pick and cash. Don't sign him and use the pick next season on an arm that can reach 90 MPH and that has a solid track record. The only reason he was picked that high was so that the Jays could low-ball him and not give him slot money so they could use the extra cash on a guy like Sobolewski who probably would've been atleast a late, first round pick if not in the top 10. A real prospect.

The Jays have apparently signed Sobolewski...he was in the lineup for Auburn last night...0-4 with a run scored. Apparently he signed for slot money (243 000$) and didn't hold out for more as originally thought.
