Looks as if his asking price is 2.5 mil a year... and niners say that is too steep...

agreed 2.5 mil is too much... hasnt he realized that hes still on the market for a reason... no one thinks hes worth that much

I think his asking price will go down when he realizes nobody in the NFL wants him for that much. That's why he isn't on a team right now.

straight up I think the price for a proven veteran like that should be around 2 mill a year or 1.5 with incentives that could reach 2.5. A signing like this could be a boom or bust. A bust if he can never get over his injuries and won't play or a steal that he could almost regain his former all star form. If he can do that than he is a clear upgrade from the other potential ted linebackers and the niners would have one of the scariest defensive interiors in the league.

2.5 mil too steep? We will only sign him for 1-2 years. That won't clog our cap any.

yeah but that's potentially 5mil that could be used towards a younger, more productive free agent next year....or money that could be helpful to lock up bryant johnson if he comes in and proves himself as a legit #1 or #2

hopefully bryant does really well and we do lock him up, in that case, 2.5 is alot.

Hes not gonna be signed with any one for just 2 mil an year. Let it go for all does 9ers who want him. You would do your self better producing an LB you drafted or haven't seen yet go to be solid and cheap instead of paying another pricey old LB who thinks hes still as good as he was with Cincy.

Takeo Spikes update

The Takeo Spikes story is like a ship stuck in the doldrums - no movement. A handful of teams, including the 49ers, have made offers that the 31-year-old Spikes feels are too low. It seems that Spikes is going to wait it out, perhaps until the regular season, and hope that a linebacker-needy team grows desperate enough to meet his demands.

The 49ers right now are not desperate. They have one player, Jeff Ulbrich, who has proven he can play the position Spikes would play, and two other players - Dontarrious Thomas and Larry Grant - who have the potential to play it but are still learning. If one or more of those players gets hurt, of course, Spikes' demand might not seem so steep.
