View Full Version : The Resurgence of Clint Barmes

Clearly it's early; Barmes only has 131 at bats entering tonight.

However, he's posted a .361/.397/.588 line, good for a 147 OPS+. As we all remember, he was off to a really good start in 2005 before injuring himself by whatever means you choose to believe.

Anyway, when he returned in 2006, he was clearly not the player he was before. In 350 pre-injury at bats in 2005, Barmes posted a pretty solid (location notwithstanding) .289/.330/.434 line to finish 8th in the Rookie of the Year balloting. (Which I have questions about, since he had 96 at bats entering the 2005 season, but I digress....)

But, when Barmes returned 'healthy' in 2006, he stumbled to a ridiculously bad .220/.264/.335 line, good (or bad?) for a 47 OPS+. So, what was wrong then? And more importantly, what is right now?

Barmes got a bit of good luck when Troy Tulowitzki went down in late April, and he hasn't looked back.

So, does anyone have any idea why he's taking the NL by storm? Is he FINALLY healthy, has he matured as a player, ????

I don't know where this resurgence came from, but I wish I had forseen it before my fantasy draft.... He burned me when he came back and played so poorly after being injured so I wrote him off, but he is definitely on fire now...

I bet the dear meat gave him good luck.
