Draft smart, try to unload hefty contracts via trade and sign good FAs. Put everyone on the block except for Wade. A core of Wade, Marion and (Beasley or Rose) is not too shabby. Surround that big 3 with good role players: Haslem, Mourning, Wright, Cook, Banks......and then sign 2-3 FAs: such as Swift, Green, Dooling, Pietrus, Childress, Posey, Duhon, Diop, Arroyo, James Jones etc.

If a blockbuster deal comes along on draft night or something, and it absolutely makes us better to the point where we can contend in the playoffs immediately, we have to pull the trigger. Teams do crazy stuff on draft night. If the right deal comes along, we might have to look into trading our pick. Especially if it's in the 3-4 range. But can you imagine what teams would give up for a shot at Rose or Beasley? It'd have to be something amazing for us to consider though.

I hate Perk... trade em for beans i dont care ..he is a big body and a good rebounder an defender BUT BRINGS NO offense to this TEAM... We do have the BIG 3 an other scorers but he gets so many open looks down low in the paint an has bad hands an fumbles the pass... PLUS he ALWAYS has to go down first before he goes up an it takes away his size.. I HATE PERK

TRADES
1.Jamison for Brand (maybe add 2010 first round pick of Wiz)
2.Trade daniels and first and second round picks to portland (who loves draft picks)for a pure pg in steve blake
3.Trade stevenson, mason, blatche(the wiz would barely give blatche up) and next years 1st round pick for artest
FA
sign veteran in PJ.Brown to a 1 year deal

Then our lineup would be
Arenas-great scorer
Butler-great all around player
Artest-great D,he can also score
Brand-better than antawn
Haywood-led the league in FG% last year

Bench
Blake- pass first pg
young-more time for the future all star

New Orleans

Draft the best shooter available
Make Julian Wright the 6th man
Get a good backup for David West at the PF spot
Get another capable big man to come off the bench

OR

Sign Lindsay Hunter or Chris Duhon to be the backup PG
Move Pargo to backup SG (which is what he plays alot anyways)
Put Julian Wright in Bonzi Wells backup spot (Bonzi stays with the team but sees a reduced role)
Draft the best possible PF to backup David West
Make Hilton Armstrong the backup Center and resign Melvin Ely

Lineup would stay pretty much the same because we still have:
CP- the best PG in the game (Duhon coming in as a playmaker better than Pargo trying to make plays...)
Peja - one of the best shooters (Pargo is instant offense)
MOpete - solid contributor (Julian Wright)
DWest - a very good inside/outside PF (Need a good backup maybe a guy like JJ Hickson)
Tyson Chandler - the best defensive C in the game (Hilton Armstrong will come along as well as Ely)

I actually think that would be a good trade for both teams too. Calderon has already talked about how he wants to leave the Raptors. He said at one point in the season this year that he would like to play w/ the Lakers. He's a big, tall PG, which Phil Jackson likes, as it works well in his triangle offense, and Calderon, being the on-the-rise PG he is, would probably start for the Lakers w/ Fisher backing him up.

Kapono, like Ariza, is a UCLA guy, and he can shoot the lights out when he gets an open three. If the Lakers needed a three pointer in a late game situation, and sent out Kapano, Kobe, Sasha, and VladRad, it would just be a matter of Odom inbounding to whoever's open.

Toronto would also benefit in a way. They would get a good, young PG in Farmar, Walton to replace Kapono, and a second round pick. Notice I never mentioned Mihm... lol. That would just be a salary filler to make it work. ;)

Milicic is 7-0 , Perk is 6-10, Darko is also a year younger

Darko averaged: 7.2 pts, 6.1 rebs, 1.6 blks in 23.8 mins --> playing in a tougher conference

Thats a horrible trade for the Raptors,Calderon is the future at the point for us,he never said he wants outta Toronto,a Spanish reporter asked him if he'd like to play for a franchise like the Lakers and he said "Yes,it would be nice. But I like where I am now in Toronto" plus he's not tall like you think he's only 6'3.

Farmar has proven throughout the playoffs that he can't handle pressure situations although he does have a lot of upside,Walton has a a high Basketball IQ,and he is a good passer but he'd be nothing more then a bench player here, :puke: @ Chris Mihm, and also our GM isn't a fan of draft picks.

But here's my plan for the Raps Off-season:

Trade Tj Ford & Joey Graham and 17th pick overall to Clippers for Brevin Knight & #6(which i think they have? It's either 5th or 6th) pick overall(select Danilo Gallinari or OJ Mayo)

Trade Anthony Parker,Rasho Nesterovic(Exp.) & 2009 first round draft pick to Knicks for Jamal Crawford

Sign C-DeSanga Diop(FA)

Bring over PG Roko Ukic

2008/2009 Roster:

SG-Jamal Crawford/Carlos Delfino/Roko Ukic
SF-Danilo Gallinari/Jason Kapono/Jorge Garbajosa

They need a post player to play alongside Duncan. Someone who will help take some of that rebounding pressure off Duncan. If I was San Antonio I would even just make a small move and aquire a guy like Nick Collison.. Would help fix a lot of problems. San Antonio just ran out of gas, it may also be time to say good bye to some of their vets.

Notice I never mentioned Mihm... lol. That would just be a salary filler to make it work. ;)
Toronto just gets screwed over in that deal. Calderon is the Raptors second best player, and, assuming Bosh is untouchable (Jose probably is too), our most tradeable asset. I honestly think every team in the league would be interested in him. We could get much more than the Lakers spare parts for him. And like Franchise said, no way does Jose want out of Toronto.

PG-Jose Calderon/Brevin Knight/Roko Ukic
SG-Jamal Crawford/Carlos Delfino/Roko Ukic
SF-Danilo Gallinari/Jason Kapono/Jorge Garbajosa
PF-Chris Bosh/Kris Humphries/Jorge Garbajosa
C-Andrea Bargnani/DeSanga Diop

Not saying any of that would/will happen though..but i'm hoping it does.
I agree with you on the part about Jose not going to the Lakers, at least not for that deal. But I would rather trade TJ for some more proven talent than Brevin Knight and the pick. Also, while Crawford is very talented, I am not sure he is the right SG for this team. I am thinking something more like TJ++++ for Artest...maybe I am dreaming...

#s 2 and 3 were something they had before they traded for Jason Kidd(mr overrated)

9-time NBA All-Star
6-time All-NBA First Team-Second Team
9-time All-Defensive Selection First Team-Second Team
NBA All-Rookie First Team
5-time NBA regular-season leader, assists per game
3-time NBA regular-season leader, total assists
NBA regular-season leader, total steals
NBA All-Star Skills Challenge champion
One of three players with 700 assists and 500 in one season

I wouldn't call that overrated and this coming from a Lakers fan, I saw a lot of threads in the Lakers forum before he got traded to the Mavericks saying they wanted him on the Lakers. Most peolpe are basing he entire career off that Hornest series and Chris Paul did the same thing to Tony parker.

Did I say his career was overrated? No need to get so defensive.

But yes, this season he is overrated. He still shoots a horrible percentage, i mean its downright atrocious. He still turns the ball over at a disgusting rate, and hes not a defensive force anymore, and yet before the trade people were acting like he was god

I neevr wanted to trade Bynum for his ***, he is the exact opposite of a triangle point guard

Nuggets

Strategy: Go young, build proper around Melo, 2 year plan to be in contention.

1. Fire George Karl, hire JVG
2. Re-sign J.R. Smith
3. Trade Camby for Hinrich (or, if that fails, Duhon in a S&T)
....Camby's contract expires in 2010, and he could be a great mentor for Noah
4. If possible, trade AI for one good sg (Maggette? Mike Miller?) and maybe a half decent big with an expiring to a team who's looking to clear some major cap space soon
5. Try to convince Najera to re-sign at the vet's minimum and re-sign Diawara using the BAE. If Eddie won't re-sign for that cheap, sign another FA vet for the minimum, preferably a SF/PF.
6. With the #20 draft a center, either Robin Lopez or Hibbert
7. Go over the Pepsi Center with a fine toothed comb and make sure that Karl firing stuck.

Hinrich(or Duhon)/Atkins/Green
Smith/*(new sg)/Diawara/Jones
Melo/Kleiza/Jones
K-Mart/Najera/*(new half decent big)
Nene/Lopez/*(new half decent big)

Obviously, this isn't a championship team yet, but it's moving in the right direction both in terms of salary and personnel. From here, one possibility might be to package some guys together to make a big move before the deadline. Either way, after that we'd have another offseason to continue this process and try to put ourselves in contention by the end of 2010.

Portland Trailblazers Offseason:
1. Buy Phoenix's Draft pick for the 3rd year in a row (I couldn't resist)
2. Bring Rudy Fernandez over from Spain.
3. Three-way trade:
Utah (Salary dump so Utah can sign Deron Williams) Receives:
Raef LaFrentz (12M expiring)
Jarrett Jack
#13 overall pick

Houston Receives:
Andre Kirilenko

Portland Receives:
Shane Battier
Steve Francis (Buy Out and Resign with Houston for the second year in a row)
#25 pick
(Houston has $3M in trade exceptions so the money works)

4. Trade Martell Webster, #25, #33, 2009 1st, cash to Memphis for Mike Conley Jr. and Brian Cardinal. (Portland has the trade exemption from Houston so it works) I heard that they preferred Lowry... If not, Martell for Lowry straight up.
5. Consider Buying Out Brian Cardinal

Portland Roster:
PG: Mike Conley/Steve Blake/Sergio Rodriguez
SG: Brandon Roy/Rudy Fernandez
SF: Shane Battier/Travis Outlaw/James Jones
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge/Channing Frye
C: Greg Oden/Joel Pryzbilla

Even with Brian Cardinal's buyout still on the books, team will be $15M under the salary cap in 2009.
