When the Tim Donaghy scandal broke last fall, the confidence of NBA fans as well as players and organizations in the state of the league's officiating was rightfully shaken. Great doubt was cast on the ability of David Stern and the NBA to properly review the performance and judgement of referees, and in general, to simply maintain good housekeeping standards in terms of the quality of NBA officiating.

While Dallas has the slight edge over New Orleans, consider that Dallas recently made the much talked about Jason Kidd trade, and was easily beaten by the Hornets after that trade. I think that Dallas, much like Phoenix, made a rash decision and is now a worse team than before. For that reason I would like to consider that Dallas has lost its only game against a playoff team (of either conference) since acquiring J. Kidd. Outside of Dallas, New Orleans has the best record against western conference playoff teams and I believe will win it all this year.

This season wasn't supposed to turn out this way.

With the dramatic offseason moves by Orlando and Boston, a Chicago team that nobody expected to suffer such serious setbacks, a Miami team with D-Wade on the mend, and teams like Washington and Toronto looking poised to continue building on their relative successes from the previous season, the East was supposed to finally restore balance to the league by reversing course and getting much stronger than before.

But basically, the exact opposite happened in reality, with only a small portion of that success having come to pass.

As we all probably know, there are several teams that will be interested in Ron Artest once the off-season begins. What makes him such a valuable player is the fact that there arenít too many Ron Artest players in the NBA. Players who would do anything for a win, players who play defense and actually enjoy playing defense. Not only will he provide defense for you, but he will also provide 20 points per game on the offensive end of the floor. That is all something that you cannot turn down as long as he isnít asking for more money than what he is really worth paying. There were rumors that heíd sign a new contract ranging anywhere from a teams full mid-level exception all the way to $10 Million Dollars depending on the situation. There are also other ways that Ron Artest could go to a different team by the Sign-And-Trade process involving the Sacramento Kings and a different other team.
