I had an opportunity to meet ray allen twice and some of his family. That was during the UCONN days, but he seem to be a very nice person and you can tell he is very much into cultural things.

Today's thoughts....So the Cleveland Indians decided that champagne tastes just as good on the road. Apparently they forgot that the city of Boston has the most die hard and loudest fans on the planet to give the sox that extra oomph. Lugo had an interview on channel 5 last night right after the game saying how he couldn't believe how loud the park was last night and its amazing that although Fenway's crowd is smaller it is also the loudest.........To my point--------> The T.D. Banknorth garden, AKA "The Jungle" is going to be the most difficult place for any team to play in the NBA this year. I have been to recent playoff games and it has been loud there, but this year i think the jungle is going to break some soundmeters. I see especially Garnett and Pierce as two guys that really thrive off the crowds energy and I am expecting our home record this year to be off the charts.
The players are hungry, but oh boy are the fans. The die hards are going to lose some vocal chords this year(including me) and I cant wait!

Anyone agree with me on this? If you dont where do you think will be louder this year? And also how good of a record do you see the Celtics having at
home this year?

P.S. Enjoy being 17 it doesnt last long...lol

I have a pretty cool story. I went to a Celts pre-season game about 5 years ago in New Hamsphire at the Verizon Wireless. I decided to show up with my wife(girlfriend at the time) to grap some tickets last minute. The ticket lady informed me that the game was sold out. I was bummed. As I walked away she told me to wait...all of a sudden a dozen seats were available. They were really good seats... but she said they were unused promotional seats. So I paid around 40 bucks each for them, which is steep for pre-season. Then we went inside and had amazing seats right behind the scorers table about 5th row.

As we sat down there were a bunch of seats next to us empty. Just after the game started Wyc Grouspeck sat down right in front of me. Chris Wallace sat down right behind me. Steve Paliucca was right behind me also. Rod Thorn(Nets GM) sat right next to me. I later found out that the tickets were reserved for owners/GM's but that they were not being used so thats why I was able to purchase them. I know this bc WYc told me. He was talking to me on and of the entire game. It was right after he bought the Celts so not too many people knew who he was.

Best part was leaning back in my seat and listening to Chris Wallace talk shop the entire game. This was right after the Vin Baker trade so he was holding his breath hoping it would work out...which it didnt. Really neat experience though.

I also met Antoine Walker on this night, as he was gretting at the door before the game.

I met Reggie Lewis a long time ago and have his autograph. ALso met Rick Fox and DJ and a few other scrubs from the 80's like Brad Louhas and Marc Acres at autograph signings.

Not bragging, but just putting out the fact that...

Boston truly is on top of the sports world. Yea, the Pats could possibly go undefeated, and are the champions for the title...The Sox won the series...The C's have been completely restructured in hopes of a playoff run...But get this; The New England Revolution are back to the cup finals in the MLS. It's good to live in Boston.

I just want games to be in HD. Right now I get all home games in HD but not road games.

I still think the on air guys (Heinsohn and Gorman) are doing the same job. GOrman is great...Heinsohn gets old sometimes with his constant blaming things on the refs. I like Greg Dickerson as a sideline guy. Usually that job goes to a hot chick but Dickerson knows his stuff and is good at it.

I dont like the after game/in studion with Gary and Donny. That is worse than before. I liked it before when they sat on their couch/chairs and talked. Just my opinion.

Dont get me wrong...Heinsohn does bleed Celtic green, but IMO he fixates on the refs waaaaaay to much. I love how he is so positive ALL THE TIME but he needs to focus more on the game rather than the refs.

After the replay, Heinsohn usually says something if he was wrong, though. Or Mike mentions something, and Tommy just doesn't disagree. He doesn't really go on and on about bad calls if he sees that it actually wasn't a bad call. I personally think he's great. He makes the telecasts a lot more fun.

Corey
12-23-2007, 10:30 PM
From what I've heard, the newer ones are less prone to glitches and bugs. I think it was much more of a problem when they first came out, but im not really sure. I also heard standing the system vertically can screw it up. Idk.

My fantasy team in Corey's league he set is doing OK. I hope to make the playoffs.

As for Christmas gift all I want is a few days off to sleep in. I did buy myself a nice Christmas present...one of those Celtic retro shirts that has all the championships on it. I was like a kid in a candy store when I walked into the pro shop.

ShakeN'Bake
12-23-2007, 10:38 PM
Well it used to be this thing called The Red Ring of Death...where your 360 would just get ****ed when you got it but the extended everyones warranties and all you have to do is ship it out to a factory and they send you a new one. And the new ones are less prone.

As to the PS3 vs 360. The graphics look pretty dominant with the PS3...I know its a better buy because it has a blue-ray in it which would cost you a fortune anyways. But I think the 360 is better based on online play alone. From what I can recall playstation's online play is horrible, the connection is shoty and it freezes up. I think comparing the games is basically a wash except for their signature games, which is really up to the player.

Standing any system vertically is not really a good idea because they are much easier to knock over which could ruin the system and almost always scratches the game inside.

I assume it has something to do with the recent 4 game struggle.

Personaly, I havn't been able to post as much as I would like to due to the fact that I have Finals this week. I havn't been able to go on the computer as much as I usually do, because of the fact that I've been studying almost every day and/or night.

Slightly better? Rondo is still 22, and in his SECOND YEAR in the league. His potential is through the roof. Perkins is 24, and already a defensive powerhouse. Given more time (and if he stays out of foul trouble) he's going to be a walking double double in the future. Slightly better is a bit of an understatement.

That reminds me Corey, is the whole "Celtics Adopt a Player idea" still a possibility?? IMO it could bring some excitment to the forum. It will give the Celtic's poster's something to talk about and disscuss during time periods where theres not too much to talk about. Seeing how the forums been so dead lately I think it could work. The only problem would be getting posters, but some members seemed commited towards doing it.

just to add to that because i know davis was also mentioned. davis is considered according to espn as a top 10 among the rookie class....and the boy doesn't even start for our team so imagine if he got quality minutes.

actually this week he slid to the 11 spot but whateva but he is still ahead of people like corey brewer, al thorton, jeff green, julian wright (who i actually like), and acie law. so critics cant really sell our young guys too short at this point as corey mentioned.

If no other reason than... let's get this conversation back to the NBA...

But... in Big Baby the Celtics easily got the steal of the 2007 draft. He'll do just fine as long as he works to stay under 275. More than just fine. He'll do well.

Just thought I'd point out that Rondo and Perkins are the BEST 4th and 5th starting players in the league.

Danny Ainge will start to draft young players and rebuilt a younger team around the big 3 in the next few years. 3 years I guarantee they will still be awesome, 5 then it might be rebuilding time, but to say "screwed" is ignorant.

No, I just think that Perkins and Rondo are the best, "other guys" in the league. We don't even have to talk about them if don't want to. No, really, we don't have to talk about them at all - I mean, what's the say after talking about Pierce, Allen, and Garnett? Are we finished talking about those guys? Forget the off-topic thread for moment. Nevermind. How often is it important to talk about guys like, Mikki Moore, Raja Bell, or Royal Ivey? It's not that the "other guys" don't ever contribute, it's just they are USUALLY replaceable. Not in the Celtics case, IMNSHO. They are young, dynamic, future stars.

Edit: Can I just now profess my undying love for Jersey #5 and KG? I freaking love that guy.

Edit #2: You'll have to cut me some slack - I've been flying out to Boston to catch games the last couple of years, and this is the first year I've witnessed them win a game - here in Sacto this year - and I think THIS is the year, and I can't freaking wait. I've been waiting for good news since two days after the '86 draft.

what does everyone think of the shaq to suns deal i think the miami heat just got a lot better with the addidtion of shawn marion and marcus banks plus the suns get a proven dominating big man to go head to head with the lakers. shaq has been plaqued with injurys but if he can keep it together this is a good trade for both the suns will just have to slow it down a bit so the big fella can get up the court to set the offense he will do better because he will get the touches he needs he didnt in miami:clap:

It's risky for the Suns, as Shaq's health for the rest of the year isn't a guarantee. It seems as though they may have panicked with the Lakers adding Gasol. Marion is a good player, but they've been wanting to ditch his salary all year, but I am surprised they did it for Shaq, because I think they had some better offers for Marion in preseason.

The Suns just lost a thrilling 2OT game to the Hornets tonight. Wish I could have seen it. I thought ESPN or TNT should have had some games tonight, what the heck!!

Hey, Jwalk126, didn't Esteban Batistsa go sign for an Israeli team? I am still wondering why they cut him in preseason, as he was decent and we have the two open spots, and to have one of them filled by a big guy wouldn't hurt. I wonder if he expressed interest to go sign there, if he wasn't going to get much playing time in Boston. The other question is, while he played great under the basket, he didn't seem to hustle up and down the floor, and I wonder if that played a part in him being cut.

Batista got cut because he didn't want to play here, not because we didn't want him. He thought he wasn't going to get the minutes he deserved, so he decided to go overseas and raise his stock for a (hopefully) future NBA starting job. He didn't think his skills were being accurately judged over here, i guess.

ok you wanna talk C's, how come Tony Allen hasnt been playing?

I recently read that after every game, Doc and the coaches talk over line-up changes and things they need to adjust. This process obviously sucks, because there seems to be no ability to instantly shuffle the right line-up around in the middle of a game. It's like they only talk about it prior to a game and not during. The haphazard line-ups that Doc uses during the game makes no sense. You can't decide on a line-up the night before, and then use it in that game no matter what. You have to check with the flow of the game and the score.

As bad as we played last night, I don't think any combination of players would have been the right one, but the starters basically should have played the entire 4th. We were down by a lot in a giant game on the road!! Here are the minutes on the starters last night:

Perk - 26
R. Allen - 34
KG - 38
Pierce - 38
Rondo - 30

OMG, this is the playoffs, Doc. If you can't ponder the idea of maybe having to use some of these guys over 40 minutes, then you shouldn't be coaching. There's no reason why they all couldn't have gone for the majority, if not all of the 4th. KG didn't come in until about the 9 minute mark, so that would have given him a total of 41 for the game had he played the whole 4th. Whoopdeedoo. He's paid the big bucks, I think he can handle 41 minutes, especially when he didn't even practice the day before!

If it's a case that he was tired from playing through the 3rd, then that's just not utilizing his minutes right. While I don't think Doc primarily had much to do with the loss last night, as the whole team stunk it up, Doc can't keep doing this with the line-up if we're going to win it all. We've got a weakened Detroit team (with Chauncey's injury) and each round keeps getting tougher and tougher (we've now lost a home game this round). This stuff will never fly in the NBA finals against either SA or LA, if we can get past the Pistons.

Merged threads. We had an off-topic thread back in the day. It went dead a little bit before playoffs. As long as the posts stay clean, and have a point..an Off-Topic thread should be fine.

Anyone catch the Spurs highlights, or watch the game last night? Did you see the final play when Brent Barry went up for the 3?

What do you think about the no-call by the refs there? You probably aren't going to get a call that late in the game, with the game on the line...But Barry surely got fouled.

Thoughts?

i think it was a foul... but if Barry pulled a flopping act or went up with the shot right away the ref would have no choice but to call a foul

i can understand why spurs fans are mad i would be mad to if that happend to pierce

but the stranger thing is kobe didnt go to the line once

it was a foul but barry did a poor job of selling the foul. to take a dribble after the foul almost makes the case you dont want it called. and the fact it was late in the game makes things ten times worse.........imo

did anyone watch the pre-game when mike and tommy were talking? ok who was the player in the background shooting for the c's. i thought it was pruitt but it could have been ray......which would make sense.

but if it was pruitt that says alot for a person at his stage in career.

I didnt even think pruitt could dress for a game.

i didn't either but it did look like him shooting around. maybe i looked at it quick and in fact it was ray getting out there early.

Corey

It was probably Ray. I don't think Pruitt is allowed to dress either. I'm fairly certain he just wears street clothes to the games, along with Scal and Pollard. I remember when I went to a game during the Cavs series, Ray Allen was out there earlier than everyone else just taking jumpers with one of the trainers or someone.

Could've been Pruitt though, who knows?

Scal was dressed tonight, and it looked like Davis and Powe (only other two regulars who didn't play) were dressed as well. What was up with that?

I thought it was a foul. Definetly not a no call...a foul but he wasnt in the act of shooting, however Spurs would have gone to the line no matter what. A little too much contact for a no call IMO>

i honestly dont know. but whoever it was they were out there taking some 3 pt shoots too. does pruitt have that range? i assume it was ray because he did come out hitting i think 2 back to back 3's so the early practice did help. only bad thing was that rasheed was also out there shooting early and ended up hot in the game

Pruitt's a stellar scorer, or at least was at USC, he just isn't really a true point guard yet which is why he doesn't play.

you should come down to the FIBA forum once in a while

to be honest, I started as a Mets fan. mostly because my mother is from New Jersey, and while living in Israel when I'd visit the US it would always be to NJ.

my father is from Boston, so I basically split the sports... in Baseball I like the Mets in the NL, Red Sox in the AL. basketball its NJ and in football its New England

by the way, you should come down to the FIBA forum once in a while

non celtic fans can post anywhere they like as long as they post within the rules of the site.......IMO

i guess the whole point to this thread in particular was to give us one specific thread to talk about any and everything that is off topic, thus helping the other threads say on topic and make for better conversation.
