A proper diet is integral to athleticism, right? Someone forgot to tell that to the sports stars who thought booze and pizza were the Breakfast of Champions. So we compiled stats on the fittest and fattest to determine who's got the edge.

BASEBALL: RUTH VS. KAPLER

Babe Ruth: One day in Coney Island, Babe Ruth--arguably the greatest baseball player ever--ate four porterhouse steaks and eight hot dogs, and drank eight sodas. That, of course, was just a pre-game snack, and the norm for his career.

Gabe Kapler: is a retired outfielder, who played portions of 9 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Boston Red Sox. arguably had the best body in baseball. He has 5% body fat, works out religiously, and sticks to a diet of 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat.

Babe Ruth / Gabe Kapler

Career batting avg: .342 / .270
HRs per 162-game avg: 46 / 15
RBIs per 162-game avg: 143 / 66
Men s magazine covers: 0 / 1
Nickname: Babe /The Babe
Workout: Home-run trots / Daily lifting
Weight: A rotund 215 lbs /A buff 200 lbs
Edge: Fat guy

Let's see...didn't Greg "The Slob" Luzinski have to retire because at 6'1'',300 lb.,(or
whatever he was),he could BARELY walk around the bases, let alone run.And don't the
Fielder lads(Cecil and Prince) both approach 25 dozen lb.?

bartoron

Walter Young. He's 6'5" 322 pounds.

According to Wikipedia, he has the highest BMI of any player in MLB history.

I can't believe all the people saying Mo - he wasn't even worst 5.

Ruth wasn't an oinker until he was about 32, go find pics from 1918 or 1925.

Wilbur Wood !! He had a waist size of 54" Garces and Fielder were really fat as well.

Don't bad mouth the fat man... He's a legend!

Anyway, the ambiguous duo in the Twins bullpen of Guardado/Reyes. Watch them sit next to each other. It still makes me laugh.

I would think the fattest was Mo, but the biggest gut has to be ray King.

Why no Big Papi mention so far, and don't try to say it's all muscle.
