We know the Lakers really want him but aren't willing to give up a whole lot. Instead, they'll wait until next Summer. But here is the problem for the Lakers. If the Spurs do trade Leonard to the Sixers and they get past the Celtics, which is highly possible with a healthy Leonard, then the chances of him re-signing with Sixers are extremely high. Magic said this is a make or break off season for him. They're list of free agents were short. They got their first in Lebron James but missed on Paul George who re-signed with the Thunder. If they lose out on Kawhi, then Magic would have failed because this isn't a team that can compete for a championship, even with Lebron James.

The Spurs should be on the phone with the Sixers in order to gain leverage back from the Lakers. Taking less to trade him to an Eastern conference team. A package of Robert Covington, TJ McConnell, Furkan Korkmaz, Justin Anderson and a first round pick in 2019. Its not a sexy package, but its one that is filled with young talent that Popovich can develop and utilize.
That package is a bunch of average roll players or worse.

76ers only team with access to key medicals based on team doctor connection.

Fairly evident Spurs want package built around Saric & Robert Covington.

Package built around Fultz / Saric would require 76ers throwing in additional contract (Chandler or Bayless) to make deal work.

76ers would prefer deal of Wilson Chandler, Saric, one of non Markelle Fultz shooting guards (Furkan Korkmaz, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. Bet they don’t want to include Zhaire Smith who they just selected Rd1. Issue Spurs don’t have backcourt Needs.

Spurs need Front Court Depth & Wings. Saric just fits perfectly in Poppovich’s system at Stretch 4 especially if you can protect him defensively with Covington.

Uncertainty Kawhi signing longterm creates issue for 76ers. 2019 Rd1 pick will be in the late 20s. Not really appealing for Spurs who won’t want the guaranteed contract. I’d bet the Bulls 2nd Rd Pick (76ers also own is more attractive to Spurs). But the REAL Sweetner if the 76ers wanted to get a deal done around Chandler-Saric would be Miami’s 2021 unprotected Rd1 Pick. But doubt Pop is around till then & nothing about him screams patience.

If I’m the Spurs I’d be doing Homework on Jonah Bolden, a 76ers draft & stash in the Summer League. But for the Spurs… Hold out for Covington, Saric.

    Philadelphia Receives:
    Kawhi Leonard

    San Antonio Receives:
    Dario Saric
    Robert Covington
    T.J. McConnell
    Korkmaz or Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot

Popovich & his GM RC Buford (Rumored to be heading to Philly to join Brett Brown) are holding up the offseason the market. I'd expect a flurry of moves once Kawhi is dealt to Philly.

    Saric Contract:
    2018-2019: $2,526,840
    2019-2020: $3,481,986 (Club Option)
    2020-2021: $4,791,212 (RFA Qualifying Offer w/ $10,445,958 Cap Hold).

    Tremendous Contract for the Spurs.

Covington under contract through 2021-2022 season for like $45M. In Today's NBA that's a huge bargain.

Ah yes, that makes it fair. It's also totally logical that the Spurs would want Dragic and Winslow over DeRozan lol.

They want Dragic, future Jimmy and future Kawhi over just Derozan per sources.
