He was not a good manager... Better than Mickey, but still not good.

Name a “good manager” and I guarantee you many fans of his team thought he was an idiot.

Terry was a very good manager. He made very few head-scratching moves. His problem throughout his career was his ability to lose the clubhouse, which cost him jobs early in his career, and eventually cost him the job here. His on-field management was usually strong.

We are seeing what a bad manager looks like now.

Hodges legacy is based on how he managed men, not his in-game decisions — except for the shoe polish incident. We remember Hodges fondly because the players played well in 1969 obviously and the tragedy of his premature passing. Personally, I think TC had a little GH in him.

Let’s not pretend if Hodges was managing this team now, fans wouldn’t pick apart his in-game moves. It’s what they do nowadays. The fans and media are ruthless. Do you remember the angry “Fire TC!” thread you started because of some in-game decision in 2015? I bet you don’t, but I remember.

Hodges threw Gentry out on the mound with a tired arm in a July, 1971 game. Gentry got bombed and pitched with arm problems afterwards. He was never the same.

They had to scrub that video from the net because it’s against the agreement with the umps.
