I probably won't see another player reach Barry Bonds level.

Defensive metrics are so up and down that they aren't reliable in a year to year WAR. What is reliable is the offensive production and Barry was a 1.4 OPS and 268 OPS+ and .544 wOBA bat.

Mike trouts base running and defense is not worth enough to overcome the huge discrepancy with the bat.

Barry is still the best I have ever seen. He was must watch TV back then.

    You don't even need WAR.

They were equal offensively, and one of the players ran the bases and defended well and a superior position.

    Trout was easily more valuable.

And there was a perfect storm of traditional information vs analytical.

Tigers made the playoffs, but the Angels had a better record in a tougher division. And the Angels W-L% was significantly better with Trout on the field than the Tigers with Miggy on the field.

Miggy hit in a hitters park, Trout in a pitchers park.

Trout runs the bases and defends well, Miggy does neither.

Net runs created clearly showed Trout as superior, so did WPA and a host of other stats.

    It wasn't just WAR.

I saw Mike Trout play in the low minors and was very impressed with his attitude. He looked like he believed he belonged out there, but was not a "hot dog". He was very approachable and never refused an autograph seeker. His talent was obvious, but his humility was just as obvious.

Barry Bonds 2001 is the best season ever and will probably never be topped.

    Babe Ruth 20, 21, 23, 24, and 27
    Gehrig 27
    Hornsby 24
    Yaz 67
    Mantle 56 and 57
    Wagner 08

While I think it's certainly up there, I dunno about it being the run away best ever.

Babe Ruth's 1923 season is the highest fWAR and rWAR season ever
