Do the right thing and the Wilpons do not belong in the same conversation.

Now that I mentioned it…it there any way someone could check on this???? Can Coupon get on this????

Any retirement for Reyes is going to include a buyout. The narrative about the Wilpons is embellished to at least this extent. They're not breathing heavy over whatever it costs to buy him out. Obviously, they want to give him a dignified exit because of his sentimental value to fans and the team.

The thing is perhaps Reyes doesn't want to retire. There is no shame in releasing the guy but a lot of that is on Sandy too because he has no sense of urgency with the roster, as evidence by all the relics they've carried through his tenure (Gonzalez being another one).

It absolutely is not. The Wilpons don't want to eat his salary. They want him to put in work for it, or defer it across multiple years.

They're not going to defer any buyout over 3, 4, or 5 year period. He's owed a little bit over 1.3 million dollars now.

Mets wanted to give Reyes a send off it should’ve been before he left in what? 2011? Definitely also not after he was suspended for shoving his girlfriend through a glass door but to each their own I guess...

I believe Sandy's way of sending Reyes off back then was “If you’re asking whether I should have sent him a box of chocolates, perhaps I should have done that,”

    Don't worry. He's got this.

I guarantee that's what they're trying to do. They're hoping he retires so they can make him some kind of ambassador or some BS while stretching his payment out over several years.

Basically Alderson just said that Reyes is not going anywhere because the Mets don’t have any worthwhile replacements for him.

Are you F-ing and Sh-ing me at the same time? The man is hitting .140; every ground ball hit to him is an adventure, every throw a mystery, and yet somehow he's irreplaceable?

    No.

When did he say this? He's flat-out wrong. Luis Guillorme was objectively better than Jose this year.

This is why they call him Spindy. It's all about money here, not performance.

But the question remains as to whether or not Guillorme's development is hindered by putting him in MLB lineups rather than AAA. It's a two-sided question.

The money is spent whether or not Reyes is on the roster or not. But let's say its about money anyway - this would be on ownership not Alderson.

It's amazing how wrong you can be with so few words.

    Here: https://nypost.com/2018/06/12/alders...-mets-debacle/

There is literally no one on the Mets payroll, either parent club or it's affiliates, that could replace Reyes current production.

At least according to the Maverick...

Was trying to remember that quote. Thanks!
