If the hit by pitch is on purpose they are both assaults. I could punch you in your torso and cause less pain and still end up arrested.

Hockey had a problem with this sort of caveman type behaviour and they got it sorted out (for the most part). I'm confident baseball will too. But it will take a while because there will always be guys like you insisting that assault is ok under the guise of manly comraderie

Lol assault. Rather than the batter just taking 1st base, we should also have one of the stadium cops escort the pitcher off the mound in handcuffs and straight to the local jail. Problem solved.

A HBP equals assault and the assault is basically my fault. Wow you're good.

This is called assault. If it's deemed you threw at someone intentionally you should be ejected and suspended.

Why stop there? Assault under any circumstances is still assault, no? Shouldn't law enforcement get involved?

Throwing at a hitter is stupid. I see no point of it. The best case is...you give up a base runner. Worst case you see a player get hurt, and benches empty and suspensions happen. I can't see any reason for it.

I liken throwing a player in the same way of hockey where you'd get your star player take a hit (whether legal or not) and then you'd throw your goon out to go fight someone and "protect" them. The goon has essentially gone by the way side in hockey. Let the bean-balls go by the wayside, too. Win the game on the scoreboard.

That's not to say throwing inside is bad...that's not. It's the intentional stuff. There will always be unintentional hits. It's baseball. But the intentional stuff is just stupid. End that already.

My apologies. I thought my use of analogy, common in high schools, was easily understood. My fault for overestimating the crowd.

I don't think people are saying that hitting someone with a bat is the same as hitting them with a ball. I think they are saying that the escalation from hitting someone with a ball to hitting them with a bat is similar to the escalation from pimping a home run (or whatever) to hitting them with a ball.

Imagine tossing your bat at a pitcher in retaliation, hitting them, and not getting in trouble (doubtful that would happen of course).

You'd never have a pitcher pitch inside to you again, let alone hit you on purpose.

Yup. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
