    Season 8 Old Man's Club

As the PSD Sim League develops, the lust for the younger players continues. There is constant trading happening with the though in mind of going cheaper and younger. Those post age 35 are merely cast aside. Last year, we highlighted the 8 players beyond the age of 35 who were competing for jobs with players who are for some, half their age. From a year ago, we lost Clarence Weatherspoon to retirement. However, 7 of last year's post 35-year-old players remain in the league and one more individual joins their ranks of the elder spokesman of the league. Lets look into the grandfathers of the league.

    Allan Houston (36 Years Old) - C+ A C- C D D
Free Agent - 14 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: 2000 3-pt Shootout Champion & 2004 3-pt Shootout Champion

    2006 Stats: 32.5 MPG, 16.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 2 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 1.3 TOPG

Allan Houston is the lone player to join the rankings of the elder players in the league. A year ago at age 35, he was still getting it done at a high level. He's a sharpshooter and to this day, still one of the best, if not the best, pure shooters in the league. He put up over 16-points-per game last season with the playoff-bound Cleveland Cavaliers. Although he's limited defensively, putting the man in an outside oriented offense with A outside shooting is any general manager's dream.

    George Lynch (37 Years Old) - C C D C C+ D
Free Agent - 14 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: N/a

    2006 Stats: 0 PPG, 0 MPG, 0 RPG, 0 APG, 0 SPG, 0 BPG, 0 TOPG

A year fresh off not logging a minute with the struggling Denver Nuggets, the 37-year-old George Lynch returns for a 15th year in the league to try to make amends. Although he's attempting to hang around, there isn't much use for him anymore. He will most likely be signed by a team looking to tank that could use a veteran presence in their locker room to keep moral up in times of losing.

    Latrell Sprewell (37 Years Old) - B- B+ C C D+ D
Free Agent - 15 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: N/a

    2006 Stats: 15.1 MPG, 6.3 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 0.9 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 0.9 TOPG

Latrell Sprewell spent the 2006 season in Philadelphia coming off the bench. He put up over 6-points-per game in 15 minutes logged. It seems that the 16-year veteran of the league would be able to put up more with B- inside scoring and B+ outside scoring. He is limited defensively so a bench spot would best hit him at this point in his career. Look for Sprewell to sign to a championship contending team in Free Agency and look for his chance to secure a ring.

    Sam Cassell (37-years-old) - C B A- C+ D- D
Dallas Mavericks - 14 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: 2001 All-Star & 2001 All-League First Team

    2006 Stats: 34.1 MPG, 13.9 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 6.9 APG, 1.9 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 3 TOPG

The old man is getting it done in the later years of his career. At 37-years-old, Cassell logged 34 minutes a game where he put up 14 points and 7 assists while grabbing two steals. Those are impressive stats for any point guard, let a lone someone who has spent 14 years in the league. Cassell is on the second year of a three year deal with the Mavericks. If he comes back next year, he's slated to make $12 million at age 39. What a man.

    Cedric Ceballos (38 Years Old) - C C+ C C+ C+ D
Free Agent - 17 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: N/a

    2006 Stats: 27.1 MPG, 4.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.4 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 1.1 TOPG

Cedric Ceballos logged 27 minutes-per-game a year ago with the tanking Denver Nuggets. He put up just over four points-per-game in that span. At this point in his career, there isn't much use for the 17-year veteran. He doesn't do something extremely well. He may find himself on a roster, but don't expect Ceballos to see the court much this year.

    Dale Davis (38 Years Old) - B- C- C- B- B+ C
    Philadelphia 76ers - 16 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: N/a

    2006 Stats: 15.7 MPG, 5.7 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 1.1 TOPG

Dale Davis, who spent his last two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, comes back for a 17th season to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, who were the Eastern Conference Champions a year ago. The notorious bench big-man still has something to offer even in these later years of his career. He posted 6 points-per-game and 5 rebounds off the bench for the East leading Atlanta Hawks in just 15 minutes-per-game. Those are some quality bench numbers.

    Gary Payton (39 Years Old) - B- C+ A- B+ D+ D
Sacramento Kings - 17 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: 2000 All-Star, 2000 All-League First Team, 2000 All-Defensive Team, 2001 All-Star, 2001 All-League Third Team, 2001 All-Defensive Second Team, 2002 All-Star, 2003 All-Star, 2003 Most Valuable Player, 2003 All-League First Team

    2006 Stats: 29.6 MPG, 15.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 5.6 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 2.1 TOPG

The Glove is hanging around, even at age 39. He signed to the two-time champion Sacramento Kings on a mid-level exception. Last year, with the tanking Portland Trailblazers, Payton put up good numbers, but was also the best player on the roster. He still has elite level handles and is a top-tier perimeter defender. He has great value, especially now that he's off his mega deal. He'll play a great role with the Kings this season.

    Will Purdue (42 Years Old) - C C- D+ C C D
Free Agent - 19 Years Experience

    Career Achievements: N/a

    2006 Stats: 8.9 MPG, 1.5 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 0.5 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 0.7 TOPG

Will Purdue continues his legacy as the oldest player in the league, out aging second place Gary Payton by 3 years. Purdue will turn 43 this upcoming season. He hold little to no value, outside of tanking teams looking to use his veteran presence and his lack of skill to help them lose games. You keep doing you Will.
