    Options for 3B

We obviously have many needs on our team right now, but I think a discussion around a legitimate 3B is one of the most glaring needs. With Cabrera our current 3B, we should be exploring some better options. Here is the current rumors and options connected to the Mets. Who would you want, and more importantly, who do you think is the most realistic?

Todd Frazier - Can probably be had for a 1 year deal for mid range price tag. Low avg, good power
Travis Shaw - Rumors if Brewers sign Moustakas they would trade Travis Shaw possibly to the Mets
Nicholas Castellanos - Rumored to be available with the Tigers in a rebuild season
Mike Moustakas - Has his flaws, but a good option....Probably will be the priciest option
Yunel Escobar - Not much to say, decent player but not inspiring
JOSE REYES - Because we are the Mets this is probably our top target...Love Reyes but obviously a shell of his former self and not a very good option for a club who actually wants to compete. Would love to see him back as an infield backup for a few positions.

I think Jose accepts a minor league contract and a ST invite.

Pretty much my thinking as well...but I would rather have Shaw if that somehow worked out with them signing Moose.

I would love Shaw more than anyone but we need a RH bat.

Harrison is the guy we need. He can be our Ben Zobrist.

I thought the Mets were using Cabrera at 3rd?

I was gonna say the options are Asdrubal, David Wright, Flores, and TJ Rivera. I fully expect Cabrera to be our 3rd baseman and TJ or Flores at 2nd, whoever performs better.

I really think Harrison would be a perfect fit for us as well, would love to have him. With the Pirates having a mini fire sale hopefully it works out.

I would love Shaw. I don't care that he's left handed. I don't know why Milwaukee is even thinking about signing another 3B and trading him. It makes no sense to me. He's a younger and better option than any of the free agents out there like Frazier or Moose.

They are and he's not nearly as bad for 3B as everyone is making him out to be IMO, but we do need a more long term 3B at some point. We also need more infield depth as well, so I was thinking we should kill two birds with one stone and go get someone in this FA market that is absurdly team friendly. But if it doesn't happen, we can go with Cabrera and just sign more of a utility guy for this season, and then worry about finding a long term 3B later.

I think we are gonna sign Reyes and people are not gonna like it. But honestly, he's not a bad utility guy to back up Cabrera, Rosario, and Flores at those 3 positions. If they go this route, I hope they use the extra money saved to bring in a quality left handed reliever like Watson or Duke.

Reyes can't play much more than 100 games, but I think he's good for Rosario.

If they signed Reyes, my hope would be that they'd give Flores every chance to stick at 2B and use Reyes in a utility role.
